Antlered doe

Antlered doe - 12/11/21 01:33 AM
My son shot one tonight. Very cool looking deer. We’ve gotten trail cam pics of her for the last 3 years but have only seen her 2 times. Still in velvet and 143 lbs. No sign of any male reproductive parts at all. We’ve wondered if it was a doe or buck with no junk. Now we know.
If someone wants to post pics, I’ll text a few.

Wonder if it is a male with internal gonads that never descended. Either way very unique deer congratulations to the fella!

I've killed a deer with fangs, a extremely pie bald doe, but never one like that that. Congratulations to him on an awesome kill, congratulations!!!

That’s not something you see every day. Congrats to your son. Might be worth it to go all out on the mount. Deer like that are very rare.

I had a similar deer on camera for several years and have looked for it hard. No pictures this year though and no one has killed it yet. We are curious if it is a nutless buck or antlered doe. Maybe this will be the year.

How did you know it was a doe with horns from a camera pic? See it with fawns?

We didn’t know from the pics. Wasn’t sure if it was a buck without junk or a doe until he walked up on it after the shot. We had been wondering for 3 years. Never saw it with offspring
I’m almost as impressed with the doe as I am
With the old school camo.

Re: Antlered doe - 12/16/21 11:32 PM
Very cool! One was killed at our camp in Vermont back in 1970. It was 123 pounds dressed, had one small beam, 4” long with 3 points on it. The story goes that after he shot it, it fell in the snow on the side with the antler and was covered up. When he approached and didnt see and male organs and what looked like a bald head he freaked out thinking he had shot a legal buck, went back to camp and got everyone to go back with him in the middle of the night to get what they all think is an illegal deer out of the woods under the cover of darkness. As they picked it up to move it they saw the antler and realized what had happened. At that time in Vermont only bucks could be shot during gun season and any deer had to have one antler at least 3” long.

It's not me saying so. It's biology.

https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1177/0300985814528216It's a quite cool deer no matter what. First one I ever saw was mid-90s over around Moulton. Guy shot one that looked like it had two melted candle blobs on its head.
