I bought the 111 trophy hunter package savage in a .270. I am removing the scope to put on my wife's remington 7600 carbine in .308 and adding the nikon prostaff 3 - 9×40 bdc because the adjustment is smoother on the prostaff. I wanted to upgrade the bases and rings as well but wanted some ideas of one's to look at. I personally like the low mounts. Any ones you guys prefer over others?

Leupold rings and bases are good.

I prefer DNZ over everything I have, including Leupold.

I personally don't like Leupold bases. I've had them work loose on me in the past and the ones with the double dovetail system are hard to get aligned just right. And their standard system (not the dual dovetail) with the rear ring held by windage adjustment screws just begs to shift under heavy recoil. That system is just plain poor.
Talley rings are best in my book. They're expensive for a reason. Those things are rock solid.
As for bases, fewer parts are better, starting with zero. My favorite system is Talley rings on a Picatinny or Weaver rail that is integral to the rifle, or model-specific Talley ringmounts onto a rifle's proprietary rail. Next best is a Talley Picatinny base that screws securely onto the rifle paired with Talley rings.
Don't buy any damned two piece base systems from other companies. Why introduce another source of working loose or misalignment into the system?

Leupold rings and bases are good. What he said. I've never had any problems out of mine. I have quick detach on my muzzleloader, with no issues with it either.

Redfield / Leupold is not a good mounting system. 1,000's of rifles wear Leupold Rings and have for what? since the 1970's? They are not my first choice, but they work just fine. Not sure why so many people have problems with their scope mounts. I have never had a complete failure in a mounting system... I guess ever. Only problems I have ever had were screws that were too long that I can remember. My only 2 pieces of advice for this thread are: 1) If you are going to be jumping out of a Helicopter with your rifle get the appropriate rings/mounts. 2) If you cannot properly mount a scope.. I guess get someone who knows what they are doing to mount it for you.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Because there are better options available now.

I just put DNZ on everything as I bought it new over the last 8 years or so. Nothing that I already had with a scope on it got changed and the only other rings/bases that I have are Leupold.
