Saturday morning I got back to the house and the wife asks what I got out her car this morning. I say nothing and we keep packing to go out of town. 2hrs into our trip I notice the pistol I keep in there is gone and it all clicks. Some cock sucker stole it. My fault for leaving it unlocked but damn man, I live in the country. I mean row crops down the road country. Had to have been a kid. My truck was unlocked too with another pistol and other stuff and they didn't touch it.
So I get back in town and call the LEO and out he comes. I'm county but town jurisdiction. Nice officers and all and have a handle on my neighborhood. They seem to think they know who could have taken it. Then the cop says I'll start pulling people over until I find it. Gun or no gun I'm not for that. $400 ain't worth losing rights. I hope he meant he'd pull over the people he thought would have it and he'd text me some pics of anything he found.
Next is I don't have the serial documented but bought it new 2 years ago. Will the shop still have the nics form?
At times my ambition far exceeds my talent.

Yes they are required by law to keep records. If they go out of business all records must be turned over to BATF.

Hate to hear that.. Have you got a yard dog? One thing about my place, I know if there is anything different in the yard.

See my byline.
I hate that for you. I ALWAYS bring mine in the house. I NEVER leave it outside in a vehicle. It is so easy to just pry open a sliding rear glass even when locked. Vehicles offer no protection for your valuables unless they are in the trunk.
I can't stand a thief.

Same thing happened to me early January. I got to the house around 7:00 on a Sunday evening after deer hunting. I grabbed my rifle, sidearm and other valuables and off in the house I went. Got up the next morning to head out and while walking past my truck to the work car I noticed the center console was up. I opened up the door and it had been ram sacked. They went thru everything but took nothing. Like you I left it unlocked which I never do so I was lucky. The Police said it has been happening often in our area and the thugs where looking for guns or cash only seeing how they where leaving behind other smaller valuables. Hope you get your pistol back.

That's how a bunch of property (handguns included) gets taken these days, no body has to break anything they just walk around trying doors until they find a trusting sort. Everyone lock your doors. This. In north Mobile, adults will find three or four teenagers, drive them to a nice subdivision, then let them out. They run from vehicle to vehicle and don't even look in side until they find one unlocked. Probably didn't get to your truck because something scared him away before he got to it. Neighborhood in Satsuma we used to live in has had this happen several times.

You all need to spend the 20 dollars for a simple driveway monitor that sounds in your house. Ive used them for over 15 years now and in Ive caught a number of people from them. And I also have a cheap $149 motion camera that is remore activated outside and records in my home. That way you can not only catch the SOB but have video of them. Then this would have happened when you heard the alarm go off: you would have got video of the crook: [img:center] http://vid1303.photobucket.com/albums/ag156/outdoorobsession1/013540_1_zpsc40288cd.mp4[/img] and you catching him with your shotgun: [img:center] http://vid1303.photobucket.com/albums/ag156/outdoorobsession1/013627_1_zpsc2f186e2.mp4[/img] and some great still shots from a game cam too. You all at least have game cams. Why not use them?

oh yea...warning..some excessive rough language...
as you can see It was less then 45 seconds from the time he entered my yard until the time I had him under my gun. Also the flash of light high in the tree as I run out is a game cam taking pics from a different angle

Buddy of mine got his ransacked last week. Took his hunting pack, rangefinder, back up camera and other small stuff. Apparently they were breaking into vehicles all through the neighborhood. Another friend in the same subdivision had his pistol taken from the console. Sorry methhead SOB's. I can't wrap my mind around taken someone else's property. There is a special place in hell for a theif. Hopefully sharing a room with couple ISIS members figuring they're one of the 72 virgins.

Please post links or product names of what you suggest (driveway monitor & remote activated video). Thanks.

I ordered & installed a 4 camera surveillance system from Sams club after I was broken into a few weeks back. Motion detection & infra red night vision. I love it. $200 & a half day of installation.

These are the newer type or model of what I use. If someone enters your driveway it goes off in the house on the alarm without them hearing it. The cameras record to the DVR in which is in your house. When that things goes off I get out there really quick...under 45 seconds usually for sure. Thats from being asleep to shoes on, gun in hand, out there and READY. Freaks a criminal out trust me. Especially at 130 in the am when everyones sleeping. They arent used to anyone catching them then. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0050WMBN2/ref=...ASIN=B0050WMBN2http://www.swann.com/us/swnvk-460kh2
