Father's Day came early for my dad today. He's a big reason I love turkey hunting the way I do. He and I don't hunt together all the time but most of the time if he's hunting I'm with him. He's been on a dry spell for a few years and this morning he was the shooter and I was gonna help him break his slump! Birds didn't gobble much at all but both of these birds did gobble at least once on the tree. Dads bird gobbled about 3 times in the tree and we set up on him. He hit the ground and gobbled about 3 times on the ground. He was alone and lookin for lovin so didn't take much calling to convince him to come on. Few yelps on my bronzed Crystal pot call, and a couple clucks and this ol boy was doing the cockroach!! After realizing there was only 1 bird I set my gun down and grabbed my phone to record it, I got him strutting and drumming while walking right down dads gun barrell at 25 yards, after holding dad off and teasing him, I told him to "Pop Him" and he did!! Great Video especially from an iPhone. We did some celebrating and high fiving and were in the middle of taking pics when another bird about 150 yards to our right in some thinned lines decided he would chime in and play the game. He was the one we heard gobble once on the roost but was further than the other bird so we disnt mess with him. Anyhow we had to drop cameras and grab vests and guns and get a lil closer to him. We set up not 40-50 yards from where dads bird laid, and I got this ol boy fired up and ready. I gave him just the right combination of purrs and clucks mixed in with leaf scratching that he couldn't resist. I watched him from over 80 yards away strut, his way closer to my gun barrell. He was in some thinned but there was a lot of undergrowth and it got thick in spots. He went behind a clump of briars and I eased my gun up and got ready. It was too thick and all I could see was that white noggin and that's all I needed to see, a quick trigger pull and Dad and I had doubled the hard way on the awesome birds. We said a quick prayer and thanked the good lord for everything eapecially these awesome hunts he and I just shared. My son is 3 and he's been wanting to go,'I asked him several times last night and he didn't want to then, so I stopped asking, but I was really wishing he could of been there with us this morning. Anyway it was a great hunt and an awesome day. Dads bird was 18lbs 5oz 9 7/8 beard and 1" Spurs(sharp), my bird weighed 21lbs 7oz 1st beard is 10 1/4 and 2nd beard 7 1/4 with 1 1/8 & 1 1/16, 2 fine turkeys!! I tried to edit out all the talking and laughing, injust forgot to stop recording. The laughing is an exited laugh by the way, not a disrespectful laugh towards the turkey. http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o45/jaketamer/Mobile%20Uploads/th_trim.1D655F62-3E50-4643-8897-6CFC01AA09B5.mp4

Congrats to both of you. Awesome day in the woods
Yeah, well, I always heard there were three kinds of suns in Kansas: sunshine, sunflowers, and sons-of-bitches.

That's good stuff!! Congrats!! While my dad got me into hunting by taking me with him at age 4 to chase ducks, he's never had any interest in chasing turkeys with me. However my son has been doing it since he was 4 and killed his first turkey at age 5 and has killed 5 since then. I was blessed last year with getting to double with him at age 8. Let me tell you, it was EPIC.
Some do, some don't....what's it gonna be?
