I'm no Daniel Boone ready to blaze across the wilderness but the flagging tape I see on my WMA just blows me away. There's a food plot on one side, a road on the other and a bluff on the backside. Do you really need pink flagging tape on trees 10 feet apart to find your way back to the parking spot? If you miss it in the dark you will hit the road or the plot.

Take it down every time I see it. Do the same thing with bottles on trees. Throw it in the trash where it belongs.

It will especially piss you off, when you have a little known honey hole, and some azzhat blazes a trail of tape back to it. A place I used to hunt a lot in Georgia, a guy found my area. He used to hunt the weekends I guess, I'd always hunt during the week. 4x that season he flagged 3/4 of a mile through the woods all the way back in there. Each time, the following Monday, I took it down. I guess he finally figured out if you stayed on the ridge top, it led you straight to the area, because he stopped after the 4th time I took it down.

I never flagged or taped anything but on the same token was afraid of getting turned around in the woods so I wouldn't ever go too deep. I finally just bought a GPS, one that shows WMA boundaries too. I'm now prepared to walk the woods with impunity.

Getting good and lost in the woods is the best way to learn how not to get lost in the woods.

I hunted a spot one time in a swamp I thought if I hung tape it would help me walking in, I hung 40 pieces of tape, the first morning walking in I found 2 pieces the first one and the one by my stand, needless to say after the hunt o ripped all of it down and never used it again

I take them all down as well. I guess they don't realize that it leads other people to their spot also. I like to be outta sight outta mind

I'm sure it's a very good lesson. But a lot of my club doesn't have cell phone service should I really get it bad.. I have to be extra careful climbing trees in the fall and winter for the same reason.

I tie flagging tape to clothes pins. Clip on the tree limbs on the way in, and pin out on the way out.

Nice post. It's especially bad when people do it with places they like to duck hunt on the river. I take them down too, just looks bad and they have no right to tie a flag to someone else's tree who is the bordering land owner.

Most of the flagging tape i see in the woods is put there by the forestry company when they are flagging an area to cut/thin.

Don't they usually use paint.

I agree. Forestry folks and timber companys flag the area that they are going to cut. Paint marks the property boundries.

They often will paint trees on an SMZ as well to mark the border off the creek.

I use those reflective push pins and only put very few....only way really you can see them is in the dark.... and after afew trips in and out I usually take them down too...

I had to fix someons bright eye trail one time, lets just say they made a big circle back to the truck.
