How long do you give a bird after a miss to calm down?

It isn't necessary to see a good tackle...you can hear it.

I missed a bird mid last week, and he is now using the same exact area again and still surrounding himself with hens.

Dano, after my miss Saturday, I was back on my "observation point" (250+ yards away) glassing the area... Hadn't seen a return of the bird yet, but his hens are still in the area...

That joker maybe buried up in a bush somewhere. A lot of turkey die from being "missed". Not saying that's the case but it happens.

Now those hens will have another lover before long. May not be him but usually doesn't take to long for one to find them.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

I missed one last year right after daylight. Went back at 11 and killed him 100 yards from where I missed him.

n2deer, that thought has certainly crossed my mind. Time will tell; I'll know if it's a different gobbler; the one I missed had very unique colors on him, esp his fan/tail feathers (besides size/beard length/etc. - I got a good look at him while I was lobbing lead in his direction!)

If he ain't dead then he may be good to go later the same day or the next day at most IMO. They ain't near as smart as people think they are, they are just scared of everything. They have short term memory loss too I believe.

X2... I imagine the type of miss is important also. I missed a bird a week ago in the midst of a bunch of lightning - one bold in particular was VERY close. I'd guess (if it was a clean miss) that he figured it was just another bolt. In that type of case, I'd think he's good to go any time.

My GF missed one the first week, within 15 minutes after she shot he was gobbling again. An hour and a half later I had him at 40 yards (we were sitting at a tree only about 75 yards from where she missed earlier).

I had an old timer tell me he once shot a longbeard back when all they had was small game load like 7.5 shot to hunt with and he rolled the turkey but it got up and ran off. The next morning he killed the same bird gobbling like crazy at 20 steps. He said he knew it was the same bird cause it had dried blood on its head and back then there was about one tom per 10,000 acres you hunted.

I would say just a few hours. As long as you didnt put a pellet in him, or call Like hell to him, he should be good to go.
