I love the place, but I haven't had the chance to get over there in a few years. That being said, I'd start off up in the back of Ryans Creek, up past Speagle's Marina, that is, if Speagle's is still there. If they are, I'd probably bite the bullet and buy some Shad there. A few years ago, they were 20.00 per dozen I think. If You have a good bait tank, You can bring Your own from one of the surrounding lakes. They are really hard to get on Smith. That's why they can sell them for a crazy high price.
I like to rig them up Carolina style on a hook in the 1/0 to 5/0 range and a 36-48" long 20-30 lb. fluorocarbon leader. The water is very clear so You will want Your line as clear as You can get. I blow up a balloon just big enough to keep the shad from pulling it under, for a float, and let it drift/swim away from the boat. Rig up a few of them. You can drop them in the water and then troll away from them with Your reel free spooling too. If You find them in shallow water, nevermind the balloons. In that case, stay back and cast to them or use planer boards to troll it past them.
I have also caught them on Sassy-Shad, shad imitating crankbaits, bucktails, big Roostertail type spinners, and a little later in the year on top water plugs like a Spitting Image, Top Dawg, Zara Spook, Redfin, etc. For artificials, right now I'd definitely have a Sassy-Shad tied on.
I would spend a lot of time watching My graph. When You find them, they are a lot like Crappie in that they feed "Up", so drop your bait just above them.
I don't claim to be a Smith Stripe guru, but maybe a little help is better than the other answers so far.
