What do you think of this boat for a Tennessee river fishing rig below the dams at Wheeler and Wilson? Also do you think it will work just fine at the Bear Creek for bass and crappie?
Sea Ark 2072 Side console,.125 aluminum tread plate floor, wired for lights and trolling motor, Live well across the front adding to the deck area. 90hp Honda 4 stroke. I can get in this boat, motor and trailer for $19000.
Specs of the 2072 are 20' long 72" floor 95" beam, and 28" sides. Hull and floor are .125 aluminum. Hull is all welded.
I can do the same package but in an 1872 with a 75 Honda tiller for $17000. Do you think the extra 2 foot of boat and 15 hp is worth $2000?
I've been fishing out of a 1648 with 25 Honda tiller for 15 years but it is too shallow with the 15" transom to fish the river. The 2072 seems huge to me after going from the 1648 and I don't want a boat too big for the local lakes but I hate wishing I has bought one bigger later. I might take the wife and kids some too so the 20' boat would be helpful. If the 20 ft isn't too big for every day, I'll sell my 1648.
I really need some advice from some guys who know boats and know the river.
Thanks a bunch Randy

I'd love to see pics of your 1648.

That seems like a heckuva boat! But, the one you inquired about of mine is PERFECT for fishing below the dams and the bcda lakes. I loved it for fishing below wheeler with its stability. You will have to remind me what size boat that was. I've been asking everybody all I can learning about boats. If that's an 1860, I thought of that at first but I wanted the .125 aluminum over the .100. No idea why except it sounds better. I also like the extra 4" side height so that put me in an 1872 and the 2072 is only $2000 more. The original 1860 I was looking into was $15000 with 60 hp tiller Honda. I'm sure the 1860 with 60 hp would work but my family of 5 might want to go a few times, not very often but the 2072 sure would take us cat fishing more comfortably. I just don't want to spend that much money and later wish I had spent $4000 more for what I really wanted. That's a good chunk of change but I've spent that on rifles in the last two years, just to give it some perspective.

I'd love to see pics of your 1648. It's just an old aluminum John boat with center gravity live well, marine plywood floors and big plywood front deck, but I bought that 25 Honda new and it has never given me a second's trouble. Always cranks on the first bump. The boat just has a 15" transom and 18" sides. It's fine for Bear creek and such but if you get big waves on big water, it gets scary. I had waves rolling over the side at Wilson once.

Sea Arks have generally been well built boats. Also, they generally run out a little faster than other makes of the same size and should be more efficient, due to Darris Allison having had a hand in the pad development on the Sea Arks.

My Lowe is 16' and is what i call a midwestern deep V. If I were fishing just by myself or possibly with one other person I think a deep V would be a great option. Even though I'll only have the kids on the boat a couple times a year, I have to have one that will work for 2 adults and 3 kids.

What I think is outrageous is spending over $100 a month for cable TV and another $150 a month for a cell phone for over 10 years. Just an example of something nearly everyone does without thinking twice about it.

I have a 1448 with 25 tiller. I do most of my fishing at the Damn. 3 people in the boat no problem. So I'm sure either one your looking at will be more than enough. Post pics of the beast when you get it. Is yours a 20" transom. I've fished there several times on calm days but I nearly sank my 1648 on a windy day getting back to the boat ramp.
