So it was time for new plugs in my 2007 Ford F150 (5.4L V8). I went with the Champion (1 piece) plugs. After about a week, I had an issue with rough idle and acceleration. I through another emission code and had it read.....misfire on cylinder 2. I went with a change in coil pack but it didnt help, so I replaced the plug. Everything went well for about 3 weeks. That brings me to this morning, when I cranked up and it started all over again. I havent had the code read yet....but I am wondering what your guys thoughts would be. If its cylinder 2 again....I am thinking a fuel injector. If its another plug....then do I replace it and keep going? It just seems weird that new plugs (especially these high dollar top of the line ones) would keep fouling without some underlying issue.

If it is a different cyc. I would replace all the plugs with motorcraft plugs.

Fords like MC and GM acdelco. If it's anything like a chevy with preference to ac delco parts I'd start there. I've had them run like crap on other brands.

I had a problem like that on the plug wire from the coil to the spark plug The wire had a small break in the insulation and it would mis-fire on occasion. Took for ever to find it, I finally opened the hood at night and saw the spark being bled off.

Which brings me to my next point, always change wire with plugs. Its like just doing port side brake pads. LOL....yea.....going to be hard to change a non existing wire.

Dont those have individual coils but a short wire for each one? If not then abort my previous advice.

To the point of using only Motorcraft....My mechanic is also a mechanic for AL Power. He does all of their fleet stuff. He use to do the same for Vulcan Materials. He had recommended the Champion plugs. If it is another fouled plug (but a different cyl.), I may look at changing back to MC's and return the fouling Champions.

Champion plugs are only good for lawnmowers and Chryslers's. The OE Motorcraft plug is designed and tested by FMC for specific engine for best performance. In my line of work I have been to enough engine performance classes and all the engineers tell us the same things in every class, use Motorcraft(ford),AC Delco(GM),and Mopar(Chrysler). Yes autolite makes motorcraft,Champion makes Mopar and denso makes Delco but the aftermarket brands have slightly different heat ranges. It is also very common for those direct ignition coils to go bad and have more than one go bad at the same time. Coils come with the boots but if you just have a boot with a hole in it they can be bought seperatly. This man knows what he's talkin' bout. Champions are great in Briggs and Stratton that's bout it.

You need the Motorcraft plugs. These trucks don't like anything different. Check out the many F-150 forums and I think you'll see that most people that try the Champion plugs in the 5.4L end up having issues. I put the Motorcraft in my 07 5.4L and didn't have any issues at all. x2 The heat range on the plugs are critical to operating properly in these Triton engines. Go back with the Motorcraft plugs.

Well...the misfire had moved to cyl. 1.....so I changed all my coil packs (pain in the arse). Everything was good...but only briefly....back to vibrating and another code. Today, Motorcraft plugs go in and Champions get returned.

Autotlite HT15
You can thank me later. Buy the autolite... I have dealt with the idling problems a lot and wish I would've bought these from the get go.. Motorcraft's are still 2 piece and stand a high chance of breaking when removing.. I know this sounds crazy but recheck your plugs for tightness. They have been known to get loose and cause problems
