I own a business and today I had a radio station call wanting me to pay for spots to support our troops. We've never had much luck with radio advertising but I was willing to talk with him since I believe in the cause. After hearing the ad and talking price I ask how this money would go to support our troops. He hem haws around and then says it raises their morale to hear it on the radio. So basically he wants me to pay money to say we like our troops without ever giving those troops any real support. No thank you. I've sent many many care packages over the years and our family donates to charities for our warriors, but this is rubbed me the wrong way. If your selling support ads, take a portion of those revenues to actually support them, not just line your own pockets with money that people believe is going to help others.

Sorry, just needed to vent.

Sounds like something I would steer away from too. If nothing moneywise is going to support our troops, you better run away from that offer.

I wouldn't support that either!

They called me too for K97.9 in Oxford. The guy said I had supported him and their cause for the last several years. When I told him I had never bought an ad from him he then goes into his radio voice and repeats the ad he wants me to buy with my name in there. I again told him I'd never bought one in the past and got got very confrontational with me.

I hung up.

No need to apologize for venting. He's full of BS.

You see that all the time. They say if you buy this a portion of the sale goes to support our troops, They never say what portion.

In this case there wasn't even a portion, it just helped troop morale to hear we support them. Basically giving lip service. I'd rather not name the station since the aren't on here to defend themselves, but it was AM station out of Pensacola.

Go to Walter Reed in D.C. visit the troops there it will break your heart. I wonder how many charitable organizations use the troops to profit from.

Who owns those stations? Clear Channel? Someone else? That's a bunch of horsecrap.

Good on you for asking about how much goes to the troops.
