WHO SHOOTS A BRAKED GUN, WHILE HUNTING, WITHOUT EARPRO?
please don't make this a discussion about the pros and cons of brakes. Im well aware of boh. I'm just curious if anyone uses a braked gun for hunting and if you use earpro or not.

I used to shoot a braked gun, got rid of the damn loud ear busting thing.

I shoot a .308, so I can effectively kill most big game species in North America without the need for a brake bc my gun doesn't beat me up. (Not to turn this into another .308 thread or anything)

Thread should ask -who's dumb enough to use a break without hearing protection . I don't shoot my pellet gun without hearing protection , I do use a break on my 280ai long range rifle. It calms it down to about 22-250 felt recoil.
Huh -what -whajah say -come again

Yall do realize that the gun is just as loud and harmful to your ears regardless if you are shooting a deer or not?
I hate them for multiple reasons.

BGH, I got into a running gun battle with a whitetail buck once while shooting Doug Smiths braked Sako 375H&H. I think I remember shooting five times with three hits. I was in a wide open grown up field. My ears hurt so bad I thought they must be bleeding. Damn a braked gun.

One year while we were hunting in Missouri, one of our guys dropped his rifle. It was a browning BAR 7mag with a break. He asked me to shoot it to see if he knocked it off. I set up on the tailgate of the truck. Didnt realize the barrel wasn't sticking out the side of the truck. I squeezed the trigger of and HOLY HALE broke loose. That sound bounced off the side of the bed hit the back of the cab and landed rite in my left ear. I had never been hit with a sound like that before. My left ear rang for almost a week after that one shot. If I am around a gun with a break and I do t have hearing protection, I leave till they finish shooting.

I think it was around 1997 and I had my brand new A-Bolt with the BOSS. I was so proud of that all black gun until I pulled the trigger on a doe from a shooting house made from Alucobond. I couldn't hear my feet walking through the leaves while looking for the deer. It really did scare me as I thought I had dang near lost my hearing. That was the last time I shot that loud arse gun. Sold it about a year later. Almost felt bad for the feller I sold it to. I know they made a different quieter brake for it, but I hated that gun so bad my ears would ring just looking at it. My ears HURT for over a week and rang for about two. That has been almost 18 years ago and it seems like yesterday!

What's worse than that is when YOU are the guide and the client has a brake.
You can't hold your ears and keep you glasses on the critter to confirm a hit or shot placement.

My 308 warbird has a brake. I'll take it hunting a few times a year but only if I'm gonna sit in a house..
Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!

I'm having a break installed on my 300WM but I'm betting the suppressor will be on it more than the break will. If the break is on it I will have hearing protection on...
