We have lived off of Dolly Ridge in Vestavia for just about 10 years now, and I've gone through some really hard times with my mother being addicted to narcotics/prescription drugs, and also having an affair with two different men. All of this had taken place right after we moved into the house, and it caused my parents to go through a rough divorce. My mom really made the divorce nasty, and it took a lot of my dads hard earned money that he had saved up over the years from our family business. My mom just ran off and has been a non part of my life for the past 4 years, and my dad has been stuck in this big house in vestavia to raise me, and my two younger sisters. He has been struggling with money and the house payment for the last few years, and our house has been on and off the market with no success. We put it back on the market last February, and we finally have a contract on it. This is a huge weight that is going to be lifted off of my dad and our family, and I'm so happy that we are finally moving to a place that will almost split his house payment in half. I grew up in Helena all the way up to 3rd grade and loved it. I'm so happy to be coming back. We found a house in Old Cahaba that is perfect for our family, and it's a heck of a lot of house for the money. I am just so grateful that we will finally be where he has wanted to be for a long time now. My mom was a big reason why we were in vestavia, and I enjoyed going to high school there, but the bad memories I have there, outweigh a lot of the good ones. I'm terrible at typing out long stories, and it truly showing how I feel, but today was a day that we have needed for awhile. I know it'll be a big transition for my younger sister, but I am thrilled to be making my way back to Helena. It is a new beginning in our life as a family, and I think a lot of good will come out of it. I just wanted to share it with you guys on here, because I know many of you live in the area as well. I just thank the good lord for always looking over my family and I, and no matter how hard the times have been for me growing up, he has always provided.

Good luck Parker, sometimes all that is needed is a fresh start. Keep looking forward to the future and be there for your sisters. Support your Dad.

Glad to hear everything is on the upswing for you guys. Are y'all buying new construction in Old Cahaba or from an individual. Just wondering since we do a lot of work in Old Cahaba.

We are buying from an individual. It's a newer home, but it's not one of the brand new ones. This one was built in 2006.

Congratulations, man. I commend you on your positive attitude when you have every right to be bitter. It sounds as though you've had quite a challenging journey, but again, your attitude is golden. Shake that Vestavia dust off of your shoes and don't carry a grain of that ground to your new home. Put the past behind you and go on to your new beginning. I can't help but believe that your future holds amazing things in store for you. Keep your head on straight, bud! God richly bless you and yours.

I am a transplanted Vestavian, I live in Pelham now just a few feet from Helena. Let me know if you ever need a hand.

Glad things are working out. You (you, Dad, and sisters) will ALL be much better off without that kind of influence in your lives. Good luck and enjoy the new place.

I appreciate all the kind responses, guys. I don't post very much, but am on here religiously every week. I've always been more of a reader than a poster. Everyone on here feels like family. Our new house is gonna be close to that big lake that is in the neighborhood. Anybody ever heard any fishing reports out of it?
