Well, that sux. I've been eating fish out of lay and Logan Martin for 30 years. Maybe I won't get cancer. I'm gonna keep eating them though.

Yeah c’mon. Daniel White

its in every waterway all over the world at some concentration.........as well as the sea. Most isn't at a level to really hurt you in most places. It's from atmospheric deposition..........mostly....but not all....from coal burning power plants. The U.S. has introduced at great cost things to lower it.........but the rest of the world......such as China are running full steam ahead.

There are definitely places where concentrations are really high.......usually downstream of something that dumped it years ago. Just eat in moderation if you fish a suspected waterway. And limit top predators..........where bioaccumulation has stored up Mercury through the food chain.

In a large portion of the state, Alabama has naturally high mercury in its soil. In many places in bama the natural mercury is higher then EPA action levels for remediation. When environmental testing is done on soil samples it is typical to write a standard disclaimer in for the natural high merc levels. This is the primary reason why there are elevated mercury levels in top of food chain fish in Alabama waters.

One thing i think is neat is there are no ADPH advisories against eating crappie (last time i checked). Is that because they don't get as old or as big?

For the most part yes. The larger fish that would prey on crappie would have a greater percentage.

If anyone is bored and needs a long read......

I wouldn't take it as the gospel, but I do believe there is valid info contained in it.

I plan on putting a Mercury in the river here in a couple of hours.
