Im looking into getting a pup. How are they around small children? I don't know anyone that has them so I have zero experience with them. I have heard they are a great breed.

If you are interested in a spaniel puppy...I don't know really anything about Boykins but we have a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel and man it is the best dog in the world. Really chill and easy going and loves the family

I just went through the process myself and went with an English Springer Spaniel. Boykin and King Charles were both serious contenders. I don't have kids but I have 2 grand kids and wanted a dog that was great with them. Everything I read shower SPringers, Boykins, and King Charles all to be fantastic with kids. My springer certainly is ... He is a crazy puppy but he spent the entire weekend around an 8 month old little girl and he instinctively knew to be gentle and careful around her

I don't want to pass quietly into the night. I want to slide in sideways kickin and screamin
Life really is awesome ... Soak it up while you can ...

I have a boykin and he is a great dog. Super smart and super energetic. Loves to retrieve and will not stop until your arm falls off. The only negative, he thinks he's a lap dog.. Very loving and loyal dogs.

I've also thought about getting one myself. I was wondering are they some what territorial or aggressive in the least bit. I've got a golden retriever now and love her to death but she just doesnt have that aggressive grit that i like and also anybody could walk in the house and she would just greet them with kisses instead of barking or trying to attack them.

One more breed similar in size and attitude is the English Cocker. A lot of the quail preserves in S AL and Ga run them as retrieving/flushing dogs off the wagons. Good size, wonderful pocket retriever. Very biddable attitude. No offense, and I have run both, but in my experience typically smarter than a Boykin.

Used to be a lifeguard, until that blue kid got me fired.

I've got 2 guys that help me guide that use the field bred English Cockers for flush dogs. Great little dogs!!

Brittanys are great dogs also. Stay away from trial lines (unless that's what you want) I've seen a few over the past couple of years that were extremely high strung. My son has one and she's a very sweet dog and great Hunter also. I use her for a training aid when I start pups backing work.

I ended up buying one a couple of months ago. She is now 4 months old and we couldn't ask for a better dog so far.

Was looking for one too. Went with a French Brittany - farther back line from the American Brittany. Hunted Pheasants and quail behind one a few times and they are great bird dogs and great house dogs. A little smaller and closer than American Brittany

What breeder did you get the French Brittany from? I hunt with a guy in Georgia that has a 2 year old. Those are some stout dogs.

Another vote for Field Bred English Cocker; Abbey just turned one year and 30 lbs. Be prepared for high energy, though. Pups ain't cheap.
Loves to work and very smart, sometimes too smart smile

I have a boykin and he is the most loving dog I have ever had. I would highly recommend getting one. Mine was originally going to be a hunting dog, but instead we ruined him and made him a pet...lol.
