I have had the realization that I am now stuck in this job, which I do not like. I have no real skills to go out and find a job that would be much different and no real idea of anything i would rather do and the only other job i have ever had were in restaurants as a cook. I made ok money as a kitchen manager, but the hours and lack of benefits started to wear on me. I lucked into finding an entry level customer service position with the company that I am with now and was promoted to purchasing agent.I am told that once someone dies or retires I will get another promotion. YAY! I make ok money(bring home about the same as i did 3 years ago as a KM) and will continue to get raises and the benefits are good. I guess everyone just wishes that they could have a job they loved, but doubt that it is actually the case for most. I will probably retire from this job even though i don't enjoy it. It is what is right to my family and end the end that is all that really matters.....rant over

That does not sound fun, everyday dreading going to work. I love my Job and enjoy being here. I could not imagine spending 40-50 hours a week doing something miserable. I would keep my eyes open for opportunities with the same compensation and benefits in a different field.

my dad use to always says, yea it sucks. Thats why they call it work. If it was fun, you'd have to pay to do it.

I've been in some sucky jobs before and I am fortunate to have a great job now. That said there are guys at work who have basically the same job I have that appear to be unhappy all the time. Why do I make that point?
My philosophy on life has changed... I have come to realize that life is about 95% attitude. There are happy people doing really crappy jobs and there are people who would seem to have it made but who are unhappy all the time.
To give you an idea about what I do, part of my job regularly requires me to crawl inside the exhaust system of coal fired power plants in a tyvek suit, with a respirator and a flashlight... At times it can be like an episode of "Dirty Jobs" with Mike Rowe. Other parts of my job I'm sitting in an 8'x8' cubical all day modeling 3D stuff on a computer or designing stuff in Autocad. Either one of those tasks can seem to suck to a great majority of people, but my partner at work [and one of my best friends] and I have somehow figured out how to make it all seem kind of fun and interesting...
... It's all about attitude. Just my 2 cents.

You don't have to be stuck. I have been in your shoes and felt the exact same way. I can tell you from personal experience that if you work harder than everybody else and keep a great attitude opportunity's will come your way. God has a plan for your life man, don't be discouraged, embrace where God has you right now and follow him.
The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life. Job 33:4

I understand where you're coming from. I've been working a job for 30 years that I do not enjoy to any extent and dread each and every day. Like you, I feel stuck. I've applied for other jobs inside the organization, but I'm either underqualified (due to no degree) or overqualified. I would hate to start over, but I keep hoping and praying something will come up. It's just not easy when one's spouse is chronically ill and my daughter will be starting college next year. Man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. I do consider myself blessed to have a job that provides for my family and me.

Only you can control your life and this includes your job. Alot of people make every excuse in the world as to why they are stuck so to speak. There is a very good job market out there for people that want to go get it, most good jobs are not gonna fall in your lap.

What The redhead said is sound advice.
However, figure out what you would like to do or enjoy and get headed in that direction.
One last thing, that old bit about "Find something you love and make a job out of it" isn't always a good idea. I once loved to hunt any and everything then I made a job out of it. Now, hunting isnt the same for me.
