Never been but we're going up this November. For those of you that have been, what are the must see/do's?
FYI - We've already planned visits to Ground Zero, Empire State Bldg, Statue of Liberty.
**One of the reasons we decided on November is because the city will be lit up in Christmas decorations.

After years of my wife yammering about it we finally went a few years ago and much to my amazement I really enjoyed it. I'd recommend seeing Central Park, though might be a little late for the fall foliage.

You'll have a great time. Enjoy seeing some different stuff and the good sights to visit, and some local food.

You will have a better time if you partk outside of the city and use either public transporatation or pay to join a tour. It's cool to see all the sights but after you pay $50-$100 in tolls to drive around the city, cab drivers trying to run you off the road and curse you while they are doing it, and you spend hours upon hours driving around to find parking to avoid a $100 parking ticket, you will thank me for that advice.

That's not too bad if you are just going to Time Square. Those sights are spread out all over that city though, so it would be quite a walk to say "Ground Zero" or the Statue of Liberty. Cabs are another way to get around but expensive.
Be careful while you are up there.

Get a sammich at Katz Deli. Freaking delicious. That's right up the street from Davidovich's bagel place. Josh is right, it's awesome as well.

Mentally prepare yourself for being in large crowds and then don't be surprised when it's worse than expected, especially around Rockefeller Center at night. USE THE SUBWAY! Walk across the Brooklyn bridge (during the day) into Brooklyn and eat pizza at Grimaldi's Pizzeria. You can take the subway back. It's great and worth the wait. If you missed it the first time, use the subway and go ahead and get the Metrocard! ( http://www.mta.info/nyct) We took public transportation all the way from the airport. Cheap and simple. The New York transit system has a very useful app for your phone that will help get you around the city. We went the week before Christmas last year. It was a great trip and really surprised me at how much we all enjoyed it.

We got a Grey Line bus pass and I'd say it was worth it. You don't have to stay on the same bus, you can get off look around and catch the next one when you're ready. http://www.newyorksightseeing.com/

I'd love to spend about a month up there just doing nothing but eating all the different foods in different boroughs. That bagel and lox looks super.

My wife brought me a pastrami sandwich from katz deli and even after a day on the plane it was the best sandwich I ever had. She went to the 911 museum too and enjoyed it. Get a sammich at Katz Deli. Freaking delicious. That's right up the street from Davidovich's bagel place. Josh is right, it's awesome as well.
