Have done it for years. Bad thing is if you kill one and it doesn't fall out.

Easier to shoot nests with a .22 because you can ring the edges.

I bark the tree with a .22 close to the nest.

Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

I grew up shooting in nest and when I go to Lowndes Co. next weekend squirrel hunting I'm liable to shoot a few more.

I've done it, years ago. One evening I watched a fox squirrel trotting from tree to tree, but I couldn't get a shot with my 22. It went into a surprisingly small nest. I shot into the nest and heard the HP hit home on the 1st shot. He flopped around a little and he was dead. Still in the nest. I started shooting into the nest hoping I could knock it out. Nope.

That was probably 30 years ago. I've never so much as seen a fox squirrel while squirrel hunting since that day. Everyone else I hunt with kills them, but I don't even see any. If I was starving maybe I would do it again.

I have done it a few times ,but the last time I did, I didn't feel right about it. I got to thinking about it, and it didnt seem like the right thing to do. It's like I wouldn't want someone shooting in my house just to see if I was at home. So i havn't done it since.

You can typically see the nest lift after being shot if there's a squirrel in it. Shoot it another time or two and they will fall 0ut. Dang as kids it was always a hoot when a big ole coon was in that nest and we would all start shooting to bring him down. We probably killed 90% of our coons as a kids shooting a nest and surprise it had a coon in it.

Can't say I haven't. Ran two fox squirrels out and killed them both.
