Remember to wear your orange caps and vests starting tomorrow, as the youth gun season kicks off tomorrow! Wear your orange, wear your safety harness and come back home safe to your family. Good luck to everyone this weekend!

On the safety issue. Why was orange decided on instead of chartreuse like most all safety vests are today. It is much more visible.
Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

I asked this on another thread a few days back, maybe someone will answer. I know the smart thing is to wear orange period, but just wondering what the law says. Say I was working on my stand, would I need to wear orange. When traveling to and from the stand in the dark, is orange required.

I think the only time you don't have to have it on is when you're above 15' off the ground. If there are other people hunting, why wouldn't you wear it working on a stand?

safety orange turns to dull brown before daylight and before sunset for me; safety green stays bright, anybody else see it that way? as for orange, go ahead and wear it, at all times, until you are way up in your stand, and put in on before coming down. i don't climb any more, so i keep UV-dead orange on at all times ...

Say I was working on my stand, would I need to wear orange. When traveling to and from the stand in the dark, is orange required. Orange is only required when you are hunting. So if you are just working on the stand and didn't bring a gun/bow/spear along then you wouldn't need to wear it. Probably still a good idea to wear it though. Yes, if you are hunting it is still required for you to wear orange after dark. Some folks have been known to shine a light at deer and shoot them after dark. As soon as a light hits a blaze orange cap or vest it becomes very clear that you are not a deer.

Better safe than sorry. You are working in the woods hanging stands or clearing shooting lanes walking back and forth in the woods without hunter orange on and some moron that is hunting sees movement and shoots at the movement. I'd wear either a cap or a light vest in hunters orange if it were me.

I am new to AL hunting this year. I'm a FL hunter and in FL we are only required to wear Orange on public land. I wear it most of the time on private land in FL though.
But in AL, is orange required on private land as well? During gun season, yes.

another law that should be voluntary . why should i have to wear one if i don't want too ??? If you're wearing it, and someone shoots you, it's their fault. If you aren't, part of the blame can be put on you.

The fault should lie on the person with the gun, though. "Know your target" isn't just a catchphrase.

Oh I whole heartedly agree, but they could say they saw a deer blah blah. If you're wearing orange, they can't say that and it be believable.

I know. That's screwed-up BS but people claim it, sympathetic souls believe it and say "Oh, he'll have to deal with that the rest of his life" and the shooter gets off scott free.
Get distracted driving a vehicle and run over someone. You'll likely be charged with negligent homicide and the "oh, he'll have to live with that the rest of his life" won't matter.
Never have understood why stupid people who are hunting and shoot another hunter "because I saw something move" aren't charged and prosecuted.
But yes, blaze orange is visible and can help. I wear it all the time. Wisconsin's lower legislative chamber, the Assembly, just approved a "blaze pink" garment for hunting, too. It has to go to the Senate and governor.

I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE HUNTER ORANGE IS VERY DULL AT DUSK AND DAWN AND VERY LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS BUT AS STATED ABOVE THE HI-VIZ GREEN IS BRIGHT AS HELL..
