To those that hunt on Wheeler what have you seen? It's been tough this year so far for me. I have only seen three so far and they were 60 plus yards out. It seems like they are reluctant to come out. Last year in the same areas I could throw a rock and hit one. Any hints or tips on where their at?

Been to Wheeler a few times looking around get you a boat or canoe. Should be able to get a canoe as cheap as your bow.

I've only been to Wheeler once this year, and saw nothing. I plan on going some more now that gun season is started, less people will be hunting wheeler.

I haven't hunted the north side yet this year but been 3 times on the south and hadn't seen anything yet.

I've hunted the south side 2 times this year. Had four under the tree I was going to climb when I got there the first time, and didnt see a thing the 2nd hunt. I saw 16 in 2 hunts last year.

Well I just met some guys leaving when I came in this afternoon. They said the same thing I am. Just seems like on the north they disappeared.

What you never know about the north side is whats going on with the bordering farmers. I've heard several stories of them allowing people to shot everything that moves. I was at work the other day and a guy was telling a story about how some guys that duck hunted a piece of land would let him just come slaughter deer. He said he stacked them up like firewood. Said he had about 7 in the back of his truck in one day. The area sounded familiar and after asking him about it when he told me the name of the road I knew exactly where it was. This was years ago but its not the first time I've heard stories like that about areas joining Wheeler on the north side.

I have a friend that hunts the South side and he said it has been dead for him compared to last year.
