With all the talk the past few days...with buck standards, 150 inch deer, deer numbers etc. We all hunt for different reasons some hunt more some hunt less. Some shoot does some do not. It's all personal preference we know that. But my question is this..does anyone here do anything similar. Guy I work with has a lease in georgia. There are 5 guys total on about 500 acres. Their rules. You get one buck per season. Now after you kill your buck your done until everyone else harvest their buck..after that. They go in and take 2 does a piece..For 8 seasons they have done this and each year except one they all got their buck. The on year that it didn't happen the guy who runs the lease missed a buck with his bow. Actually didn't recover it I should say. So this allowed everyone to still get their does..they lease from a farmer. It's mixed timber....the smallest buck taken in this time was a 125 6 pointer. He was a brute. 5 deer over 150. Who would be interested. If I pulled the trigger on a great deer...to me I have fulfilled my goal for the season. What ya think?

coach some of us would, I've had buckless seasons because I take no pride in killing a dumb young buck. i don't need a pickup full of sawed off basket racks !

Over the years I have killed smaller bucks. But as I grew into an adult and a better steward of the land, I realized that the smaller bucks needed to walk. That's when I started seeing and being able to harvest mature deer. It's a personal choice for me. I personally like the challenge of mature deer. But it's just me.

I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

I live in Georgia and also hunt Alabama(grew up in Butler Co.) I think there are two different strains of deer between the two states. Georgia stocked a higher number of northern deer(Wisconsin) which have larger bodies and larger racks. I think most parts of Alabama received a Texas strain of whitetail. I know both places have some great deer but Georgia has advertised there quality bucks and maybe Alabama hasn't. Can anybody confirm what geographic area the non-native Alabama whitetails came from?

I don't need to kill a buck every season to be happy, just the chance to hunt a good deer. We do eat a LOT of venison so I need meat, donated does just fine by me as I have no desire to kill does.

I'm scared there is going to be a deer standing alongside St Peter at the Pearly Gates and will be pointing at me and whispering to St Peter as I approach. If so I'll just turn around and head south...LOL

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

The vast majority came from swamp deer north of Mobile. A few spots got deer from North Carolina, Texas, and Michigan, but just about anywhere in Alabama with a late January rut has deer that came from the delta swamps. They are basically Florida panhandle deer genetically.

Now they say this......they have an advantage because their rut coincides with the opening of gun season. I think that has some merit but I can't say for sure because I've never hunted the property of the state of ga enough to say for sure. But the thing that they all enjoy is the fact that the last guy to shoot so to speak will have the place to himself until he kills his buck. It seems to be a good idea in theory however I know there will always be instances where people don't see eye to eye. I know on year 2 guys killed their deer in bow season which made for an interesting season. However I think that this could work in other places just have to get similar folks on board. As far as openings go....haha I don't think there will be anything open anytime soon. They have too much success it seems.

Sounds workable to me. I haven't killed a buck in 4 years and have passed on some pretty good ones. Passed on the same 125-130" buck 3 times this year and several others. Haven't even killed a doe this year. I see a lot of deer and I hunt a lot. Don't care to kill just any buck just because I can.
I've been hunting over 50 years and I'd rather watch them than kill one. A big buck is another story.
I'm more of a deer manager than a deer hunter at this point only life. I told a buddy of mine I might as well give them names because I probably wasn't going to kill them

I completely agree with statement ron! However if you talk about letting deer walk you could be tar'ed and feathered by some on this board. Different strokes for different folks for sure. Example....I pop a big deer...anything over 140 is big to me! Then if it's the first ten mins of the season so be it! I'll hang at camp and pull for everyone else. Some are not ok with that and that is their choice as a hunter!

Coach, Go to the GON(Georgia Outdoor News) website. It will show you pictures of the Georgia Truck buck entries, the County as well as the harvest date. No doubt you will see some quality deer.
