Yep, if it wasn't for full academic scholarship in undergrad, I'd never be able to repay them. I'll probably be around 280K by the end. Should have gone to med school. I'm not going to be very far behind you with debt when I finish up in May, professional school at Auburn definitely isn't cheap.

It's a damn shame that colleges charge as much as they do.
Congratulations on the vet degree. I would loved to have been able to do that. Not quite done with it yet, but thank you. However, today is my last day in the classroom. Are you doing Large animal? Did you come from a farming background? Congrats on it either way. I just Graduated from AU in December. Mother of two, and drove from Wedowee every day.. Lots of work, but proud of it. I couldn't have done it without Daniel.

From someone who never went to college, holy smokes what are you going to school for??? Are you being funny, or really spending that much for college? What career will you do that will profit on that investment? I believe he's in vet school? I know a guy that is in dental school and has a wife and child, and will come out owing around $700k He may be a dentist, but he doesn't sound like a very smart financial guy. I don't think a single person could incur that much debt if they tried. The max is usually $50K/year or so. The average dental student last year graduated with $241,097 of loans, according to the American Student Dental Assosiation. That's the average, and private schools can be significantly more. Add undergraduate loans (if no scholarship or family paying) and it can get on up there. Add a private practice and watch it triple or quadruple.

You did go to med school for patients that don't have Obamacare. If it keeps going the way it is, you'll be glad you didn't go to med school and a lot of doctors will be wishing they went to vet school.

Still ain't smart But I'm not denying the debt is ridiculous.

I am 30 and a few years ago decided to change careers and go back to school for an associates degree, I already had a bachelors degree. I had to take out a small loan ($5000) to pay for school. I finished this summer, got a better job with my associates degree in September. I just paid off the loan 1 day before my grace period ended, so I didn't pay any interest on it. I'm not going to lie it felt good to stick it to the man just a little bit. I know he will get me back on down the line though. You got the loan though, right?

Well, if you are working on your first degree, you can get a subsidized loan up to a certain amount. For those that don't know, that means interest does not accrue until you graduate. Unfortunately, once you are in graduate school, all government loans are unsubsidized and accrue interest at 5.8%, which was recently dropped from 6.8%, but is liable to go up again. As far as writing off interest, I am not sure what the rules are on that.

My son racked up some good debt at Clemson. He paid off a huge amount of it by becoming an Army Officer. Debt is done. He knew Dad would help some, but wasn't wiping his arse.

My wife and I both graduated auburn in 09 and had roughly a quarter mil worth of student loans. To say I was scared to death is an understatement. I hate those things but honestly neither of us would be where we are today if we had not been able to borrow money for our education. It also helps with motivation when you know that YOU, and not anyone else, will be paying on those loans. I'm glad to say that if everything stays the course we will have them paid off within the next few months. That will be a good day! My biggest complaint with student loans is that some people can write off the intrest on taxes and some can not. I guess what I am saying is that for me student loans are a love/hate relationship but I'm about ready to break it off with them. Don't worry, Bernie's got your back. He's going to make Trump pay them off for saying bad things about him.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
