I cut down a magnolia tree flush to ground. Don't really want to have a stump grinder come in because it's in nice bed of ground cover.

Anyone used the stump killer liquid from Lowes? Elsewhere? Does it work?

Brushing glyphosate concentrate on a big ol fresh cut stump will kill it and make it rot quicker. I'm not sure how it compares to the stump killer.

Drill a few holes in it and put a few tablespoons of salt.

I'd cut the top of the stump into a checkerboard pattern and maybe even drill holes into it afterwards and put roundup, stump killer or something all over it.

You can always drill out some pretty big holes and pour gas in them for about a week and let it soak in. Strike a match to it. That may be frowned upon depending on where you live in the gump though.

This. Get a 1 inch auger and drill some holes in it first.

Drill holes in it and pour the cheapest syrup on it you can find about once a week and the ants will do the work for you until the stump is ground level. When they quit coming just put more syrup on the stump.I have removed several this way.

Drill holes. Fill with buttermilk, and put plastic over it.

That's pretty smart. Use the bacteria to your benefit.

Bought some Spectracide Stump Remover granuals. Basically says to drill 12" deep 1" holes and pour these in. interestingly in the directions it says if it doesn't work to build a charchol briquette fire on the stump. Says "the heat will be carried throughought the stump, causing it to smoulder down to ashes until only roots remain"

This, if time isn't an issue. The bacteria in buttermilk will help rot the stump faster than Stump-Rot or any of that other stuff. If time is an issue, a backhoe or a stump grinder is hands down you're best option. Manually clearing an acre over the past 2 years, some little stumps and a lot of big ones, I've tried every "trick and tip" I've been given or ever heard of, and I can tell you that burning stumps only works if it well dead and dried, and rotting stumps is a slow process on its' best days.

Plant another shrub or tree next to it and let it rot!
