I'm certainly not against whippin' a kid's tail when he needs it. I have done it before and will not hesitate to do it again if/when needed. But this part stood out to me:

There are multiple sources that said she beat one of the kids with an RCA cord. If that's true, then that's a little too much.

Just FYI: a District Attorney in Wisconsin ordered the release of the girl who was stopped for stealing at a mall, refused arrest, spit and kicked-punched at officers and was tasered before being arrested.

Because she is black, though, everyone there had a friggin' come-apart at the "brutality" despite witnesses and video.

Same mentality as the thug shot in Ferguson. He's a thief? Eh, so what! Punched a cop? Eh, so what!

lack of discipline/punishment for bad behavior is what is wrong with this world now. I'd still be walking with a limp if my dad had caught me doing that.

There is a difference in a spanking and a beating.My kids got spankings when they were young and I got beatings.The beatings is why my kids got spankings.If you can't get a kids attention in 3 licks or less then you need to re-evaluate your system of punishment.There is also a huge difference in punishment and discipline.A lot of people get the two confused.If you are consistent with the discipline then the punishments are few.If those kids had bruises and cuts then she did need to be arrested.I sure wish someone woulda stepped in and done something when I was a kid.My back still has scars that look like I just survived a gravel slide.Sorry for the rant but this kinda thing really strikes a nerve with me.The problem is in cases too many times like this is that the parent or parents let something go until it either inconveniences,embarrasses or makes them mad and then they lose it on the kid when in reality if the parent were to have been doing there job first of all then it never would have reached that level.No excuse whatsoever for child abuse!

I hate to think what would have happened to me if I had of broke into a neighbor's house and stole stuff when I was that age, but I would have deserved it...

Big difference between discipline and child abuse....

If I caught one of my kids breaking into and stealing something, I'll guarandamtee you they'd have stripes or bruises on their legs from a belt.

My daughter is 16 and my son is 14 and I have "belt" whipped them about twice each in their life. Neither time was very hard but I wanted to leave an impression in their mind about the "end game" discipline in this house. They haven't been hand spanked more than a couple times either. No need for it, they're great kids, but if they went flat over the edge and started stealing, you can bet they'd get their butts worn out and I mean flat worn out.

I don't know the whole story and neither do any of you but this woman beat her kids butt for stealing, I say job well done momma unless a PATTERN of abuse is proven.

If you start spanking as soon as they are old enough to understand why,then you won't have to beat them. If you wait so long that it takes a beating to get their attention,then you have already waited too long.

I've spanked all of mine from the time they would test me at the word no. At that age it was just a few licks with a couple sheets of rolled up newspaper,just enough to make noise on their diaper so they would know they were doing wrong and would get punished for it. I don't remember having to spank any of them after about 12-13 years old. At that age I usually take something away. I've never had a major problem with any of my kids.

When I was 12, me and a buddy stole a golf cart from the local country club, did donuts on it and basically had a joy ride till we wrecked in a sand-trap. After the po-po got on us, and after our parents agreed to pay for the damages. My father whooped my ass so hard with the buckle end of the belt I still feel it today.
I aint never stole nothin since.
He never whooped on me for nothing I didnt earn. If that woman's children had a few marks from her whooping them for burglary and they grow up to be good folks like they probably will, then good on her.

I took a few of those. They were well deserved.
