My brother started smelling something horrible every time he turned on the car's AC/heat. After a week of it he popped the hood and found a dead rat that was cooking every time the engine heated up.

My wife drove hers daily and they still built a nest with pieces of her firewall. Pissed me off so I added poison and never had another problem.

I put poison in my truck at the hunting camp and also keep the hood up so it sees daylight. (I park in a pole barn)

I just like to duct tape a cat to the serpentine belt each night. It guards against rats and is self-clearing each morning.

Can't remember the name but the pellets that are in a container where you lift the lid and place the container on the engine.

I had a rat chewing my spark plug wires. Got me a couple of times. He wouldn't eat poison or go in traps. I put out a drowning bucket for him. Problem solved overnight.

Seems Toyotas are real susceptible to this. My FIL got hit when he was out of the country a few weeks, and the rats did several thousand dollars worth of damage to his Toyota.

Thread title should be changed to, RATS IN THE HOOD.

It blows my mind too, rats built a nest in the breather box of my wife's car.

DO NOT USE POISON! I had some doing this in my SUV. I put out the poison, and they got under the dash and died. It took months to get the smell of death out of that car. Just use traps and toss 'em when you catch them.

Another vote for not using poison. I used it a couple of years ago and one of them got in between the firewall and instruments and died. Stunk like hell for about 3 weeks.

I've always read the dryer sheets work. Place a few under the hood. Whatever you do, don't put those plastic chrome fake fender vents on it. Like Clorox stump for rats.
