So, I've felt bad for a few weeks. I finally went to the doctor and my liver enzymes were elevated. Ultrasound showed some fat in my liver and Doctor now wants to do a mri. I have an ache at times where my liver is and it and my spleen are enlarged some she says. I've not drank beer in probably 12-15 years, and I'm not very bad overweight. I'm just praying it's nothing serious and diet can reverse it. I'm waiting on cholesterol numbers, but I'm sure they're high cause I don't eat right at all. Kind of scared about it all.

I'll send up prayers for you to get a good report and overcome whatever the issue is. I had a scare that is similar last year at this time. Mine turned out to be too much iron in my blood.

I've got both , most overweight men have fatty liver . Diet will help . The spleen may or may not be a big deal. Mine is is not to bad , I think 11 cm is normal . Only thing I have a problem with is platelet count , should be 150-400ppm , mine has been a low as 40ppm. The enlarged spleen will trap platelets for what ever reason. This can give you problem with clotting. When I had surgery they had to give a transfusion of just platelets .

Are you taking any supplements? Some supplements can cause it.

I have a fatty liver also mostly due to being fat. I had all the above test done so that I could start taking high cholesterol meds. They are bad on your liver so they wanted a good base line of want my liver enzymes are. The first test showed my liver enzymes a little high so the other test came after that to find out way the enzymes where high. So far so good with my numbers and meds.

Those burgers ain't the only problem on my eating. My diet and swing shift makes it worse.

I am taking a men's daily supplement. On a side note, they said up to 90% of the population has fatty liver and never knows it. I just started having nausea and abdominal pain and was always tired. I've put it in God's hands and I pray it turns around.

I'm 6 feet and 208. Not that big, but I guess it all went to the wrong place.

I've got it as does my brother. Mine is very minimal, my liver enzymes were only very slightly elevated, no liver swelling. Like slanddeerhunter said, it's not that uncommon in overweight men. Doc I went to said that you MIGHT can get get rid of the fat in the liver but you'd have to do some extreme exercise like crossfit. The doc also said that his dad had it, wouldn't change his diet and died from it...in his mid 70's.

My diet is already being changed. I can't stand the thought of leaving these 2 kids behind.

Diet will help. Another thing, im sure your doctor looked for this, is your gallbladder. If you have one and a stone is present it can make you liver act up as well.

I had an ultrasound and nuclear scan on my gallbladder. It came back good. They said they could possibly miss something though and a MRI would be better.

Some things to look up and do some studying on is a visceral fat diet,vitamin C affects on fatty liver and what kinds of exercizes that target the fatty liver.I take krill oil rather than statin drugs and my blood tests have come back much better.

My best friend is going through the same deal right now.. ultra sound and 3 stage ct scan last week. They also ran a scope down his neck monday morning. He has enlarged spleen and fatty tissue on his liver. They cant find anything wrong and all his blood work and enzymes are good. He is a very large guy and has always been on the heavy side. Dr pretty much chalked it up to being overwright and tod him he needed to make some lifestyle changes. They will be checking his gall bladder in the next week, but nothing has shown up on the other scans he's had

Fatty liver disease is extremely common in the south. There are multiple different reasons for a person to have fatty liver deposits in their liver but the grand majority of cases are simply secondary to poor dietary habits and obesity. Other causes can include hemochromatosis (iron overload syndrome), excessive alcohol use and in some cases medication induced.

If you are obese you are at a much higher risk of developing this condition. The grand majority of cases of fatty liver disease never even affect your health and will often go undiagnosed. Rarer cases/worse cases can lead to liver failure and unfortunately other than dietary modifications and exercise there isn't much else that can be done.

Someone mentioned bad gallbladders earlier but usually a gallbladder full of stones will have a different lab pattern characteristic (alk phos, total bilirubin and ast and alt elevation will be present on lab work) whereas with fatty liver disease oftentimes just the ast and alt will be elevated and only slightly so.

In summary it is very good you are having this worked up but hopefully all that will come out of it is that your doc tells you to change your diet and increase your exercise to lose weight. Good luck and hopefully everything will turn out well for you!

Ive had it for over 15 years. If it starts aching cut out most fats and eat green veggies especially. Limit meat intake and drink plenty of water. Green tea is also good for fatty liver. You will feel better in a week just by diet changes. It'ss unlikely it will ever completely go away.. Whether or not it played a part or not i developed type 2 diabetes several years after the diagnosis of fatty liver. Ive a few extra pounds but have never been fat or a partaker of a lot of alcohol. Even the drs said i shouldnt have it. Good luck

PS: I don't think beer causes a fatty liver.
