So I noticed something interesting last week. On my way to work, I saw a deer that had been hit by a car on the side of the road(young buck but had a decent rack)and he had no velvet on his antlers. Conversely, I saw two other bucks(alive) on the side of the road that night on the way to a buddy's house. Keep in mind these bucks were all on the same stretch of road, and one had velvet and two did not. Anyone know how this could be?

I saw one at the zoo in Orange Beach this past weekend. He still had a little velvet.

I'd also say there is a chance the velvet was eaten off by bugs, vultures, yotes.... on the dead one

We have one deer on our property that lost his velvet the last two years first week of September. The rest of the deer still have velvet or are just now starting to lose it. No explanation, but it is consistent with this one particular deer.

Got 7 different bucks coming to the camera, one totally out, a couple that had a few tines peeling, and the others still full.

I have never seen one in bow season with velvet, by Oct 15 I think they will all have hard antlers only. JMO Unless they are a freak and never loose velvet.

Same here Perch. I've seen some killed that still had some shreds of velvet around the bases or something.

I've always wanted to kill one in velvet, but I'm told the season in Bama opens too late to make that happen.

oh well

Yes, bucks will eat velvet its protein. There was a man in Greensboro that raised a buck in a pen. if he didn't get'em quick it would eat sheds too.

I have 2 buddies with velvet mounts from central Alabama. One was October 15 kill, and might very well have shed that night.

The other was an abnormality. Was in January, full velvet. I think his nuts were undecended too
