I'd buy a Meopta Meostar 3x12x56 with a #4 reticle, and have enough rifle and scope for any Alabama hunting situation, with better low light performance than anything else under $1000.

Bill, do you own that Meopta? I'm a fan of Meopta too but when I looked through that one at 3X it's like looking at a tiny image inside a long tube. Lots of Tunneling with that one on low power. I don't but I've hunted with one several times. I never had an issue.
