I've been at the Gulf Coast on business and stopped by my oldest daughter's house for a while last night and I was looking at the walls. It's a newer house and nicely done, but I'm assuming this wall finish was done so the builders didn't have to completely finish the drywall. I like the looks of it, kind of like a plaster finish and even though I am going to use multiple types of wall finishes, many walls will be finished in drywall, and this looks like a nice finish for the interior of the cabin. So the question for the folks on here who would know is: How is this done? It looks like a roll on texture, maybe thinned sheetrock mud with paint mixed in and then skimmed lightly to slightly flatten it out before priming and then finish coat? This picture was taken at a framed opening, so ignore the shadow.

Texture finish, either knockdown or orange peel, hard to say exactly.

Spray applied. Texture mud is spray applied along with compressed air to blow texture onto wall in smaller droplets/pieces. Various nozzles can be used for different finishes.
Knockdown adds manually knocking down the texture with a tool since the sprayed droplets are bigger.
Orange peel is left like it is to dry on its own because droplets are smaller.

Ok. So it's a spray on finish. Yes, aerosol can for small patches. I've used on outside of my house They make orange peel rollers to make smooth walls look like that with just painting (Not that textured, but close)

Orange peel. It's easy to do. They make hoppers with different tips/ attachments to hook to an air compressor. I like the looks of it. We done a few walls in my house with it and most of Travis walls at his house. You are right- most likely done to keep from having to actually finish drywall, though.

You still have to bed the drywall joints and sand to a smooth finish before you apply the spray. It was a fad that popped up years ago in the Birmingham market but it has faded.

By " actually finish the drywall" I meant actually finishing it to look good. I hate finishing drywall. I hate hanging drywall, too.

That crap is popular out here. Quick as hell. I miss the smooth finishes in the south. Also popular are the rounded corners. They throw up cookie cutter homes; then charge you around 300k for them with about an 1/8 of an acre.

Wrong little sister. Everything has to be finished properly. It's like painting a dent. You just end up with a painted dent. You don't cut any steps if you want something right. I often shoot ceilings too. Stomped texture is difficult to match when you have problems and I hate popcorn ceilings. I can't could the ceilings I've scraped the popcorn off and resprayed with texture.

You may like it, but it's not easy for someone that isn't a professional. You have to make sure its all rolled in the same direction and don't leave roller marks. When you are doing it for yourself, you'll accept quality you wouldn't pay for. I've seen this in all phases of construction. Flooring, plait, finishing, electrical,Wood trim.

I clarified that in my post. I was doing a hunting camp. I wasn't going for perfection. I wanted a textured wall that would minimize the imperfections. This fit the bill. Can you still see imperfections? Sure. Are they less noticeable? I think so. I was running out of time and wanted this project completed before bow season.
