You guys in Tuscaloosa need to talk to this guy, he is pushing a gas tax that would increase the tax by a total of 7cents per gal over time. These damn republicans always say they are for low taxes but they continuously say they are for low taxes and every time you turn around they are passing a new tax, fee, charge, etc whatever they want to call it at the time. NO NEW TAXES, EVER! They need to learn to make it with what they have.

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Why does that matter? We don't need any new taxes on anything. Tax system restructuring, maybe.

Do you mean Phil Poole? He's been a representative for decades in Ttown.

Edited- it's Bill!

Yep, earmarking is silly. All money is fungible. That means mutually interchangeable. It's not like we're paying less taxes, so they need to be figuring out how to reallocate resources.

Required to be used for roads and bridges only with most coming back to local jurisdictions.

Just doing some quick math, my wife and I combined burn maybe 30 gallons per week. At 7 cent per gal this is only $2.10 per week.

I'll gladly pay that amount to not have to beat the brakes off our vehicles on a road full of potholes.

Most folks pay more than this per day getting a pack of crackers and a cold drink.

That's a false dichotomy and that's what the politicians want you to think. I guess it's working. I damn sure pay enough taxes as it is. They need to figure out what they're overspending on (Tahoes for cops, state workers retiring in their 50's) before they take a bite out of my wallet.

Don't really see how the math is false. Seems like pretty straight forward multiplication to me and from what I've read there's no guess work on what the funds can be used for.

You probably also believe that hunting and fishing license sales only go to the DCNR.

They can and will mis-appropriate any way they want and somehow they have the nicest farms, hunting land, houses, cars, ets.

Once they get a tax on the books, it never goes away and becomes higher and higher. A little here, a little there so you don't notice it. Or, you think, oh it is just a couple of dollars a week. How others who drive more? Because you don't drive, you think you should impose a burden on others?

My wife uses a minimum of 60 gallons of gas a week. Some weeks I burn a tank a day driving around the state for court. So that is 125 gallons just during the week. If I go hunting or to the farm, there is a tank for the weekend.

Would that amount of tax break me? No, but it is another burden put on the tax payer so the state can continue to spend, spend, spend and never worry about actually getting by on what they already take in each year.

Can you go to your boss and say, you know my wife and I looked at our finances and we can't spend what we want for what you are paying me, so you are giving me a raise so I can spend what I want. What, don't tell me to budget and live within my means, I need a new truck every couple of years rolling on 37s.

This is how they get us , little bits and pieces at the time, they are not going to propose a 15% tax increase, they do these little ones so we say, Oh we can pay a little more. The quote I like is "It's for the children" BS!, I guarantee you if you added all the taxes, fees, charges, assessments, pass through taxes (no company pays taxes, they are passed to the consumer) the true taxes we are paying is around 50%. And I promise you this. If the govt could magically take 100% of your income, in 10 years they would say, it's not enough, we need more. This must stop. Not 1 cent more, not for any reason.
