Just thinking about the thread, "Do you actually enjoy your job?".
I've helped a guy cut yards for the last couple of years after my daytime gig. It's prompted me to pick up a couple of them on my own. I plan on doing it in retirement since it's the kind of thing you can do for a few hours a week on your own time and folks are willing to pay $$$.

Geospatial and tech work. I retired in late 08.
I tried full time recreational fishing first and it got boring.
Then I tried underwater archaeology but it doesn't pay well and you never know where you'll be or when.

By the time I retire, I'll work on trying to stay awake and eating solid food.

I plan on learning how to make wine and beer, that way I can sell what I don't drink, or drink what I don't sell, a win-win!!

By the way, the wife says donating all my time to volunteer for a group that gives free breast exams is out of the question.

I think I will pick up two part time jobs that are quasi-law enforcement, which means technically they are LE jobs without any of the heavy lifting anymore. Sounds like a good plan until I'm old enough to draw my SS pennies. I'm kind of thinking I might start back to teaching on an adjunct basis again, but three part time jobs would eat up too much hunting time.
If the right full time job came along, I would consider it. I'm giving a little thought to getting a real estate license and broker hunting/recreational land.
Now when I really retire, as in no work at all, I plan on living somewhere at the coast in a condo that has no yard work and getting one of those fishing carts and being one of those old men that pull the cart out on the pier every night to fish. If they bite, good, if not, that is still good.

What "work" will you do in retirement? Not. A. $@(*$@#. Thing. I've worked for almost 40 years. It hasn't been hard or dangerous. I've enjoyed it, for the most part. But I'm tired of working and damned sure will be ready to retire. Only 15 more years.

I'm going to be a Gulf Coast food critic rather it pays or not. I've been doing that for years. It gets old. And chubby

If I ever retire, I'm going to be a full time beekeeper.

I guess I'll continue to do just what I'm doing now. -- mostly what I want to do. Remember two things. Tomorrow isn't guaranteed and good health isn't a sure thing. If you have things you want to do, do them with utmost haste when you get the chance. Being a workaholic is a disease.
