So I just leased a small piece of land and there is one access road, the logging road. Near the transition from one property to the next neither are mine there is a blown out culvert from all this rain. Just had to winch my wheeler up and out both sides. So the question is what do I do? I can reach out to my lessor but as its not his property I doubt it will go far. I can grab the culvert and put it back in but its not my property. The logging companies wont care unless they need it so, suggestions?

Any property being accessed across besides your piece? how wide is it? plan on taking anything back there other than 4 wheeler like a tractor to plant with anytime soon?

Easements are one of them things that everyone wants to use but no one wants to upkeep.

Im the third parcel on the road. The culvert is about on the line between the previous two parcels.

At the bottom its as wide as my wheeler is long lol. So like 4 feet the sides slope in from about 6 foot and its probably 4 from top to bottom. The old pipe is still nearby it only washed about 5 foot down.

I need to get my little tractor down nowish to bush hog and spray so i can start prepping the green fields. They havent been tended in a few years. The previous tenant didn't bother.

I think my little tractor can do that. Maybe if I run the bush hog at max get some extra lift

If it was me id probably reach out to the other 2 land owners who use the road and just see if they will help. It wont hurt to ask.

If it washed the pipe out its probably not big enough to carry the amount of water coming thru there and there was probably no rip rap around its entry.

True never hurts. I guess I will contact my property owner and see what his course of action is.

I have no doubt they half assed it, its a logging road.

See if you can find some old sidewalk concrete pieces or other rock and make a hard crossing. You might have to add some rock occasionally after a big rain, but it beats replacing a dang culvert pipe. A backhoe would be a LOT of help.

If it's the only access for the other two owners, I would try to turn fixing it right for them in to hunting rights

that's probably going to be the only solution that will last, it's called a texas bridge. We have some on one of our leases. They cut the grade down with a dozer then line it with riprap. Only problem we've had is that when there is heavy flow, on sandy land, it silts up and we have to clean it out with a box blade or front end loader

I like the texas bridge idea. Can usually find broken concrete around here free or very cheap. But I think your talking like make a concrete bridge rather then use it like rip rap.

The old culvert pipe is still available I was considering dragging it back into place and just pile on broken concrete and or large stone till we a road.

Ok so one of the landowners came through and cut the banks like a boat ramp. Pretty easy ride up and over this time with my wheeler. More suitable then a culvert there I think.

Now on my property I have an actual creek 5 foot deep 15 foot across. I asked the landowner and he said do whatever you have to. Fill it with rocks or take a chainsaw and cut up brush whatever you need to do.

I was thinking of making a bridge. Pull the culvert pipes back and cut up some down trees to make a platform.

Another idea was to use a combination of telephone poles and rr ties along with something like fence panels to make a bridge. It has to hold a large tractor with implements.

My creek crossing. Meeting a dozer guy Saturday for a quote. Hoping the land owner will help cover that or at least a portion.

Only thing that will stand the test of time, other than a properly constructed bridge that will be big $$$$, will be to line the crossings with, concrete or rip rap big enough to not wash out. If it's just bare earth, it will wash out or be an unholy mudhole. Been there, done that. Fortunately for us, the landowner put the property on the wetland reserve program, WRP, and the government paid for 5 crossings, Texas bridges, with your tax dollars

Yea not into spending a lot of money on this. Leased land and the first year. I will see what the dozer guy says for cost hope it won't be to costly.

Some power companies will give you old poles. When I lived in Ms I got a trailer load from coast electric. Get several poles long enough to go across and then drive rebar through a drilled hole through the poles to secure them. Take 2x12's and lay across the poles and attach them with big screws or lag bolts.

If torrential rains come, then it could potentially wash the bridge.

Another option is to find some steel grating to lay on the slopes and the center like a Texas bridge.

Thanks for the ideas. I have 1 power pole available, maybe I can acquire more.
