I know that this has been talked about before, and the answer was to mount the over the air antenna in the attic. But my situation won't allow for that. I put up a metal roof at the cabin and since then my reception has gone to pot. My air antenna is mounted about 3 feet above the metal roof. My cabin sits surrounded by trees. The antenna is good for 60 mile reception and got that before the metal roof went on. Is the roof interfering with the reception? What are my solutions? Mounting in the attic is not possible. Any help will be appreciated.

Roof is definitely interfering. I can't even get good cell service inside a tin roof.

One of the so called "reliable" Internet sites said that the antenna needs to be at least 10 feet above the highest point of the roof. Well mine is only about 4 feet higher. Do y'all think if I raise it that will solve the problem?

Typically anything less than 4 wave lengths is considered near field and can interfere with normal operation. Seems like TV wavelengths are in the 1-5m length in which case you will need to be 12-20 ft from large metal objects to reduce near field interference. YMMV

I have a metal roof and an RCA Yagi antenna mounted to a pole on the side of the house at the gable peak. It is about three feet above the peak. I get great reception on most channels but lose 17 - 19 during the day.

The middle of the UHF band would be close to 650MHZ. So .5 meter would be the wave length. 4 or 5ft. Above the tallest part of the roof you should be good. Think of a yagi as a flash light looking for the tower. You cant see it if you are looking through the roof. If you are on the same side of the roof as the tower is it could help reception. Short answer 3 or 4 feet above the ridge and pointed at the tower (or in the middle of the cluster) you should be good.

1-5 meters would be well below the UHF tv band.
