There will not be peace in that region until Jesus Christ comes back. There's nothing that we can do that will have a positive, long-term effect. Agreed. Can't bring any kind of peace and democracy into a land that is dominated by tribal cultures.

They declared Independence.
Now what exactly are we supposed to do? Given our track record of Nation Building going all the way back to Le Duan the architect of the Viet Cong and insurgent warfare. We haven't figured out how to win that kind of war because it can't be done. You can't help people who don't want your help.

The Middle East is nothing but one big ant bed. You can try to help them but you will simply end up being stung.

I hate it, Kurds have always had our back and are some good warfighters. That being said, we can't just back them outright without serious consequences.
I'm tired of seeing our brothers lose their lives in the sandbox. The middle east is going to have to work out their own problems and we just to stay on the sidelines and keep nukes out of the hands of all of them, especially Iran. Also need to keep watch for groups like ISIS and wipe their asses out as needed. Kind of like whack a mole.
Iran would nuke the Kurds in a split second if they could.

Iran, Turkey, Iraq, Syria. . . Every nation in that region would love to wipe them out. One of the best and also one of the most difficult deployments was in Northern Iraq after the first Gulf War. Spent time in Zahku and had a lot of interaction with the Kurds. Great people but they have so many factions, klans and political parties that it's difficult to keep up with the battles within. We hosted a Kurdish sit down and right after they left there was a Kurd on Kurd hit. One step forward and two steps back. s

The whole Middle East region has a history of tribal warfare, even with in countries, religions, or ethnicities. The only times there have been peace in the middle east is when it was ruled by and was part of an empire. The Romans, Persians, Ottoman Turks, British, all ruled and kept peace there at one time or another. Left to their own accords, it is just in their blood to fight each other.
The only solution I can imagine before the second coming of Christ, and I realize this isn't going to happen, but NATO (led by US), Russia, and China come to an agreement on an equitable split and divide the region into colonies of each.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Lord help us if we arm another faction in the Middle East. Here is a list of most involved: List of Armed Groups Involved in Syrian Civil War We need an exit strategy and a strategy to completely cut off any and all dependence on that part of the world. Meaning Energy Independence of the United States. That's the best thing for our national interest here at home. And then we can let our European "Allies" who are going to remain dependent on those resources figure our what THEY are going to do about it. Currently this is a U.S. issue. BUT it needs to be an issue for the European Countries. Not us. We can help them. Not the other way around.

get out and drill our own oil That is a great idea but the problem is that in the world of increasing mobilization, the tribes have the ability to take their warfare outside of the Middle East. If they just fought each other and left the rest of the world alone, I'd be all for letting them have at it. Sadly, though, they have had a taste of American and European blood, and they like it and will always hunger for more now.
