We order a lot of stuff online, so I'm trying to find a deterrrent as well as keep my family more safe. Does anyone have experience with either a home security camera or Ring? I've looked at both and they seem comparable, but I'd like other opinions as well. We aren't interested in buying a system from a company. We would much rather install and manage ourselves. Thanks in advance.

I had an experience with Ring just today. A friend and his family are out of town and asked me to get his trash can in today. While I was there at his house he called me and said he saw I just dropped off the trash can and thanked me again. He and his family were in Orlando at the time. I thought that was pretty cool.

Ok I need a little help with this. You put in a camera that will show you when someone is mucking around on your porch. YOu are 600 miles away in a tree stand and you see someone run up and grab your package that UPS just dropped off, jumps in a car and is gone. What do you do? Call the police? Tell them your stuff is gone but you are not there and don't know what it is who took it or what their tag number is? It makes sense to me to put a sign up saying that you are filming the perpetrator and it is on a live feed to the Police station. Maybe a loud screamer that you could trigger to frighten them off. Maybe a set gun that you could pull fire off and scare the poopoo out of the geek monster so he falls down and breaks his leg and have to lay there until the police can come and haul him away. But to me just seeing someone walk off with your stuff is like the as for ADS where the security monitor says, "I don't stop robberies, I just monitor them. You are being robbed." I knew a junkyard owner who got tired of his stuff walking off and his fence being cut so he rigged a blank shotgun shell to fire straight up when someone broke in. It was not a trap, and would not hurt anyone, but he got a nice leather coat and set of tools when the thug ran through the fence from the inside thinking someone was shooting at him.
Let us cross over the river and rest in the shade of the trees Stonewall Jackson Hug your loved ones often, Life is short even on its longest days. I don't see the glass as half full or half empty. I just finish it and order another.

Here's one I don't get.........we have a few different friends who have put security systems in their homes that include cameras inside the house, like 1 in each common room (living room/kitchen/etc). They can view the cameras from the control panel, a computer or their phone.
Now, I'm all about keeping the family safe and all, but that seems like you're inviting a HUGE invasion of privacy. I mean, what if I wanna hop out of the shower and walk to the kitchen without throwing clothes on, or MrsGomer and I wanna get busy on the living room floor? You got ZERO idea who has access to that if it's monitored, or even worse if it gets hacked.
I get the outside cameras, but this new thing of cameras in the house kinda weirds me out.

My neighbors use Night Owl and love it. They got 4 cameras and the dvr. It sends messages to your phone and all that other stuff.
$199 hard wired in and not wireless.
