I'll be honest I Never really pay attention to wind direction but after reading some of the stuff MBrock has been posting I think I'm going to start. Just curious to see which apps are the most accurate in Aldeer opinion IMO wind direction is the most crucial thing in deer hunting. Not camo, not scent cover, not having the most expensive rifle that can shoot 1000 yards etc. Hunting the wind will improve your deer hunting more than all of the above put together... HuntStand or ScoutLook apps both work pretty well.

A flag or wind indicator at my hunting location and set up according to thermals. Most of the places I set up thermals are more important than the actual wind direction. I look at the forecast wind directions as a general guide, but you have to understand how the local terrain influences ground level wind. I look at a couple of flags at banks on the way to the lease, they give me an indication. Our sign in board/barn is located down in a bottom with a long hollow feeding in from the North East, there is no way to know the actual wind direction from that specific location.

The weather channel app for a rough idea and then I verify it looking at the Spanish Moss hanging from the pecan trees by our sign out board.

Weather Underground shows you local weather monitors/stations they are literally all over the place. Worth a check to see if there is one nearby where you are hunting.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.
