I think it depends on your eyes. Years ago I loved the fiber optic types that mounted on the rib, and would still be using that if I could see it. Well, actually I can see it, but I see 9 dots instead of 3.
An 870 will handle most any sight. The Burris FF series is very popular with turkey hunters, and its what I use. Good luck!

I bought a eotech 512 last year for my 20 ga. Love this setup and will never go back to anything else. A little pricey but for me was worth every penny

It's just another thing that could go wrong and cost you a bird IMO. May be true. However, I was costing myself a few over the years by enjoying the view of the show, and not getting my head down on the stock. Red dots solved that and I like being able to have my head off the gun some and just aim the dot.

a lot of folks never learned how to properly shoot a shotgun BEFORE starting turkey hunting.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

a lot of folks never learned how to properly shoot a shotgun BEFORE starting turkey hunting. But it’s not an instinctive quail-dove game with the technology of loads. I shot a lot of trap/skeet in the past myself. Wasn’t great, just decent. However, when a turkey load has the pattern of a baseball at 20 yards, it’s not a point and shoot deal anymore.

I've killed loads of birds inside 20 yards all the way in to 2 yards. Only ones I ever missed ducked or moved at the last second..and that number would be less than a handfull out of 250+ killed over the last fifty years.

I've had the same old cheap BSA red dot for years.I've been thinking in upgrading this spring to one of those cheaper low profile jobs.

That word doesn’t magically change everything I had a Rem 1100, 25 years ago, with loads that had a pattern as big as a piece of plywood. Missed a few with it too. I killed one this past season at 4 steps with a red dot. What does that mean? Nothing really. Just a couple of stories. With the setups available today and the technology of loads - the majority of people have a better chance to get the center of a pattern in the correct spot with a red dot or a scope, and I don’t like scopes. Even experienced wing/trap shooters.

I guess the majority of folks can't shoot a shotgun properly if they can't kill them with beads or at worst iron sights. This thought is kinda funny to be honest. Y’all are making handling a shotgun to be something difficult, or whatever. I mentioned in my first post that I like to have my head up. I also like the way I can shoulder the gun more comfortably, and the flexibility of odd positions. Sounds like red dot shooters will have to turn in our man cards. Dang, just something else to add to the list.

When your gun doesn't shoot to POA you need a sight. The FF3 does well. I fought them for years but gave in a few years ago. It is the way to go. My little 870 shot tss a bit low and right. Not anymore.
