I’ve logged a lot of hunts this year and most of those are with my climber on my back hiking a long ways into public land. I strap my bibs and jacket on my climber. With that being said, I still get hot if I’m walking up and down ridges. I just try to minimize the sweat as much as I can.

Walk in with a minimal amount on top, I wear my heavy stuff on bottom walking in. From your waist up is what overheats the most. Don't wear a cap, put it on after you get there or wear a mesh cap and add a "toboggan" when you get there. Leave 15 minutes early to stop for cool down breaks.
1/2 mile hike in hillbilly land is much different than in flat land. If you don't want to sweat and then stink and freeze , you learn quick. behave thusly. Thank him later.

I carry Sitka Gear bibs/jacket in a compression sack strapped to my pack. I usually wear one thin layer of polypropylene, pants, and a cotton t-shirt. When I get to my destination the t-shirt has soaked up most of my sweat so I take it off and put it in a plastic bag then don the Sitka Gear. I'm dry and warm, ready to hunt in comfort
Since I hunt the mountains of Jackson I'm constantly going up or down 300-600 feet in elevation (o more) once I leave my ATV. As a consequence, even when the temps drop to teens or twentys I still work up enough body heat to sweat like a pig with only a thin insulation layer and a tshirt
I don't want to pass quietly into the night. I want to slide in sideways kickin and screamin Life really is awesome ... Soak it up while you can ...

It's a small sack that has four straps on it. You cram the clothing into it then place the straps around it and sinch them down. It compresses the clothing to a fraction of their normal size Example of a compression sack

Awesome rocket thanks....now one more question..... What size do you need for bibs and jacket? That's a good question and one I need answered since I need to buy another. I'll give it some thought, maybe call REI and get the measurements. Mine is 22" long and 12" in diameter.

Awesome rocket thanks....now one more question..... What size do you need for bibs and jacket? I haven’t used the method he is using but I know I can stuff a big arse 2 piece eights sleeping bag rated for -40 degrees in a compression sack about the dimensions he gave.

I wear the bare essentials until I get to my stand and then put the warm stuff on if I need it. Hat, beanie, toboggan, whatever else and gloves stay off until I get in the stand. I also slow my walking pace and take my time getting there, no need to sprint like I’m in a race.
