Stocks WILL NOT endure very much heat. Those are the only stocks I've run across that you cannot put in a Cerakote oven. Even at the minimum temp of 150 degrees....They will come out all warped and twisted. Replacement stocks ain't cheap either. The stocks cost half what you can buy a whole gun for now ... Don't ask me how I know all this.

I’ve owned a few of Steyr’s And all have shot VERY good.
Although Ive never had one in 300 wm I can’t imagine it wouldn’t shoot great.

Excellent guns. The forend of the stock leaves some to be desired, but not to the point that I would consider that an issue. https://imgur.com/a/BLTDK

Other than the stock issue ( which is good to know , thanks doc), the pro hunters shoots lights out . I have a 7 mm Rem mag that is a tack driver. Not the smallest , or lightest rifle out there, but a really good rifle.
I do know the safety's on the early models gave some trouble to some people, though I have never experienced it myself. Yeah, the stocks have always been their weak point. I've seen more than one broke at the wrist... Other than that they are great rifles. If you have a short action, you can get a replacement stock for around $70.00 from Numrich. Long and magnum action stocks are $275.00 and only available from Steyr.

I felt like I stole it.

I have owned three, a 270, a 7 Mag and the 308 which I kept. All shot lights out, had great two stage triggers but the rifles themselves were a little heavy. I bought a wood stock from CDNN back when they were selling OEM wood stocks for the 308 stainless mountain with the 20" barrel and it's my go-to rifle for deer hunting. Safety does take some getting used to but I have a lot of confidence in that rifle and have shot it a lot. It wears a Conquest 3-9X50mm #4 reticle. The fore end did flex some on the older grey stocks but the later black ones were reinforced. They have world class barrels.
