But getting a gobbler to fly over an 8 foot high fence is a bit more of a challenge. I had two birds gobbling this morning and unfortunately, they were on our neighbors property, which is separated from ours by a high fence. Called in both birds to within 30 yards of my set up but neither one would fly over the fence. I thought one of them was going to die of an anxiety attack pacing back and forth. He must have gobbled a 100 times. After watching them for two and half hours, they finally eased down the fence line and gave me a chance to slip out. Maybe in the morning they will fly up on our side.

I had one do that on a barbed wire fence one time. Walked up one side of the road and took a 90 deg turn in front of me @ 20 yards. Gobble for 30 minutes at full strut and would not cross the fence. I took the safety off may times but never squeezed the trigger. It was the right thing to do, I guess.

Well, I'm on the poor side of that fence hunting the free range birds. Sad thing is, the guy that has that property doesn't even turkey hunt. But I guess if I were a turkey, I would prefer to take up residence in an area where no one was hunting me and was predator free. Had a buddy of mine tell me to my heaviest fishing tackle with big treble hook or plug and leave in leaning against a tree, just in case.
