I have a power pole behind the house that has been leaning bad since 4/27/11. Today the power company cut the chain on my gate with a no trespassing sign that is 1/4 mile from the power pole. They hung my lock on the fence, put their lock on my gate and drove 2 trucks through the pasture past an unlocked gate to get to the leaning power pole. The power line doesn't run through the pasture. They rutted up the pasture and I'm a little pissed.

Call 'em. They have to have access to their Rights of Way and they'll fix the ruts.

Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

If it's a transmission line that may actually have rights of engress/egress.
But if it's a distribution line, they should have contacted you.
Call your local engineering office and speak to the supervisor. They will fix the damage, and hopefully make it right about the entrance.

The pole that they are replacing is at the end of the run that connects to our house. The powerline runs up the driveway. Not through the pasture.

That would be a distribution line.
Call your local office, speak to the engineering supervisor.
I was in that game for 30 years. I have fixed many ruts and paid for lots of crop damage.

So is it trespassing when you want them to restore your power after a storm?

Not trespassing. They must have access to their property. Those poles and everything else before your meter belong to them. Preventative maintenance. I'm sure if you call they will send someone out to fill ruts in with dirt or sand.

Everybody is your friend and let you do whatever you need to get there power back on. But as soon as the lights come back on you become a SOB.

They will fix it if you will call and be nice. Chances are it was a contractor for Alabama Power

They built us a very nice pipe gate a few years ago after having to rip out the old one to get equipment down our road.

Give them the opportunity to make it right before blasting them.

I had one of their non english speaking subs leave a message on my phone about cutting my lock off to come in and look at something. I called him back and said cutting my lock would be a big mistake and would result in said lock cutter getting his ass whipped. They were not to come on my property without contacting me and setting up an appointment when I will be there...and they were not allowed on my property without a full time power co employee to supervise their dumb asses. Never heard back from him.

Alabama Power replaced about 1/2 mile run of wood poles with the metal towers on our lease last year. They could not have treated us any better. That entire powerline ended up smooth and sodded before they left.

The right of way doesn't even go through the pasture gate where they cut the chain. The storm was 7 years ago.

Like others have said contact the local office and speak with engineering supervisor they’ll fix it. As far as locks go they will cut yours if they have to but the will typically get you a new one along with one of theirs and ask for them to be hasp to hasp so they can get in if needed.
I would also strongly advise not to threaten them laws were passed a few years back making it a felony to even verbally threaten utility workers.

X2 what Outback said.

Large companies that have to access hard to get to areas ( pipeline row, power row etc) are accustomed to repairing folks property that they may damage. Obviously they should have talked to you before they went on your land but they’ll make it right.
