I had em, right shoulder/back down right arm to fingernails. Hurt like all hail, major pain killer every hour till got to ER. Had em(and pain) for several days before going to ER. Get to ER or doc NOW and get meds and pain killers.

I had them on my right torso almost 20 years ago. Started on a valtrex regimen almost immediately, and it still took a while to get over them. Can't remember exactly, but it was over a week...maybe closer to two.

They suck. Lotta pain in my back while I had them, as well as the blister sites.

I had them last year at age 35. Took about a month to go away with no treatment.

Had them in my arm pit.........during deer season. Took a couple of weeks to get over them but I toughed it out and still hunted.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

My advice is to get vaccinated to prevent getting them.

Is this a one and done thing or can they come back after they've cleared up? If you ever get them is it then too late for the vaccine?

That is, is it then too late for the vaccine with respect to any future attack? I know it's too late if you've already gotten them.

You can get them more than once. The old vaccine was one and done. Recently, they came out with one called shingrix that is supposedly more effective, but it is a 2 dose series. Second dose given 2-6 months after the first.

Last year in the inner ear. It caused me to have Bell's Palsy and Vertigo. Antiviral meds and I could drive again within a week. Pain was not as bad as others described in other areas. I had to go back about 2 months later to have anti viral meds injected into my inner ear and this finally resolved most of my eye closing issues.

Reducing stress will help.
Last pharmacist I spoke with said they could not give it until I turned 50. They said it would help with future flare ups even if you had had an outbreak.

Good luck and hopefully your pain will subside quickly.

Again, get vaccinated!!! My grandmother had them before her death. She had her whole back covered with shingles. It was terrible. Yes, shingles can reoccur, so you should still get vaccinated even if you've had it.

Had them last month on my shoulder, back, and chest. My back looks like scars from a birdshot. I went to the Doc and got on the antiviral meds 2 days after the 1st symtoms and It still took 3 weeks to get completely clear. I didnt have them that bad but never want them again, they suck!
