That's how they get you.

It's a Lexus. I wouldn't bother with buying an extended warranty.

What is the base warranty? I would think it would be more than enough for a Lexus.

I bought an extended warranty when I bought my 2015 4Runner but that’s because I put a lot of miles on a vehicle and will be passing it on to my son when he is 16. The extended warranty will carry him to probably 18 years old. I did not buy it for the new Expedition I just bought my wife. The base warranty is plenty for her, with no further than she drives.

If that is the standard warranty, I wouldn’t buy the extended one.

X2. That's likely enough to find a problem. Without any major problems you will never get the warranty money back.

That's way I'm having a hard time buying off on one

Negotiate your warranty!! If you plan to keep it for years to come then yes get one. If you trade or sell every few years then no. I for one was always against extended warranty but recently benefitted from having one and lost for not having one. Most people don't know but you can get your extended warranty and maintenance plan for a negotiated price. I negotiated half the price for one. Trust me when you get that far into buying a car and all you have to do is sign the paperwork, they will negotiate especially over a warranty. Read the packages clearly and mark out what you don't want and keep what you want. Ask them to quote you a price. Once they quote you that price then negotiate again. You can't be afraid to walk away. Me and the wife just bought a new car and saved a lot because we researched and had a negotiation plan.

Forget the extended warranty, but definitely get gap insurance.

Lexus are great vehicles. I don't think I'd buy the warranty.

The average car warranty costs the provider 12% of their revenue in customer repairs.... think about that, you’re getting back 12 cents on the dollar.

This is true. I got them to give me an extended warranty on my new truck after we had agreed on a price. I just waited for him to ask me if there was anything else he could do for me and I said, yes, you could throw in an extended warranty for free. I had already written the check, they added it to my paperwork and I didn’t pay a dime more.

Most of my life, I felt like “that’s where they get you”, but no more. I bought the extended warranty on my last few vehicles and have been glad of it. For example, I have a 2013 f150 with 99,000+ miles. I went to work one day last month and it wouldn’t start at days end. I called the dealer. They paid for the tow, repair, and had I asked, would have furnished a rental. All covered by the extended warranty. It cost me a $100 deductible. I have a similar story on my wife’s Honda. If I’m where I can afford it, I’ll lean toward buying them from now on.

If you are planning on putting 100K plus get the extended warranty. With the electronics and sensors on the newer models now you can't get them replaced just anywhere and I doubt anyone in Prattville can even check a fault code on anything that new. From experience in the trucking industry you buy the warranty for how long you keep the truck and the same should be for any new car. You should never have to worry about the engine or drivetrain but you will have problems with the electronics if you put enough miles on the car.

It just depends . What would that repair have cost without the warranty. If it was $1000 and the warranty cost $2500 and goes to 100K, it wasn't worth it. It it was a major repair then it is.

I've bought them on used cars when the regular warranty was about out but I wouldn't buy one if I already had one for over 70K miles.
