Sounds like DonH is right. With small seeds it's best not to cover. I usually cover oats then broadcast brassicas and clover. The soil is soft. I've always had great plots like this. I'd suggest you spread some brassicas, birds eat most large seeds. Small seeds don't have enough energy to travel far when covered too deep. Good Luck

So we planted the plots at the lease and they came up except one. The one that failed was planted separately with different seed. I had run out and ran to tractor supply and got a blend of clover rather then the 3 way we had used elsewhere.
We have a few bits of scraggly green popping up now a month later.
Can I just top dress by hand some wheat or rye or some such without using equipment? I don't want to damage what little clover we got.
Thanks. And I don't think I will get seed at TSC again. There was no we in planting that one. Lol just take your land manager or food plot engineers advice and get a sack of rye and put on it. It will be fine. Then I’ll go kill a buck off of it for you haha
