We hire them, and they show up on time maybe one or two days. Evidently millenials are not a fan of the 6AM start. no they aren't, don't like having to work till 5:00 either. I have one that filed a complaint because I wouldn't give him his birthday off with pay. Same guy wants to bring his dog to work, a bigger office and doesn't like being yelled at But he's the master of excuses. I'm keeping him around just to screw with him. It's cheap entertainment. I have another one that's one of the best estimators I've ever had. Works hard, long hours and gets the job done. He's 27 and he'll be making 6 figures next year.
not sure what the best way to handle them is but they shouldnt be on tv and gettn married and raisin kids

New employees are on fire for the first 90 days. On day 91 not so much and they get the flu the following week. They gone !! I see the same thing. We have a 90 probationary period. You can see the change in attitude on day 91.

Marlon, unless you know the cast of Cheers or Taxi, you have no idea what a Hammond is. But good grief he could put out some work compared to the work/life balance crowd!

My wife works for BigCompany and had a 29-year-old woman about a month ago tell her she had a job offer and wanted to see if BigCompany could match it.
Nope. Not able to at this time. Just not in the financial struture.
Then 29yo reveals she doesn't really have a lock-solid firm offer and will have to see if prospective company can come up on their insurance and benefits. My wife literally said, "You haven't accepted an offer from them yet?" and the woman said no. She was trying to get BigCompany to bump her salary $10K. Said she would "need a few days to think about what to do."
Ultimately she took the job and left BigCompany. Good riddance.
THEN during her last two weeks she became upset and "got my feelings hurt" because she was removed from planning calls and other future-plan discussions. She told a separate co-worker she was really disappointed that she wasn't being included.
A couple of years ago a separate young woman kept trying to take sick days because she said her dog was sick. She was finally told that sick days were for humans and she would have to take vacation days if it was for her dog. She complained and said her dog was "like my child," and it was not fair. She also could not get her work done but bragged about her outside hobby jobs, one of which was a new business venture that in no way could be done while working an 8-to-5. She left the company.
Every generation has its challenges, but seriously WTF is wrong with some (not all, but some) young people these days? Unreal.

Dunno. My son works 4 jobs. He works in a real estate office, he works tutoring, he sells home automation and helps me do inspections some. He's graduating with a degree in finance with a concentration in real estate and has worked like this since his sophomore year at UAB. There probably isn't another student at that school who has real, hands on experience like that. Told me most kids won't hit a lick at a snake.
He's gotta figure out what he wants to do long term. He bought his first home last August at the age of 21. Has $35k equity in it already.
It's not all kids, but it's a large quantity of them.

I've been at my current job since Oct. When I got hired I was told that our hours were 7-4, and I'm one of maybe three people who get here on time. I usually roll through the gate at 6:50 and then we've got people who have been here for years that get here at 7:05-7:15 and even one who drags in around 8 most days. My boss thanked me one day for always being on time but yet won't say anything to all of the folks who come in late. I don't understand it at all. It’s just like with kids, you pick your battles

Y’all would be amazed at the level of stupidity I see on a daily basis. I doubt it. I do our hiring and orientation. Some real winners around. We bring them in, do a 1 hour safety and Attendance policy orientation, a brief plant tour then put them to work, I’ve had them leave after the plant tour. I tell them if they do 3 things, they can work here as long as they want. Those 3 things are: 1. Have good attendance, as in be here when we need you. Be on time, don’t leave early, and give us a few weekends along the way. 2.). Don’t be a jerk to your coworkers. 3.) Have a decent work pace. Less than half make it a week. When we need 5 people, I’ll bring in 10. I’ll still say three things: 1. This isn’t just a youngster problem. 2. The worst demographic in new hires is young white folks. The most troublesome post-hire demographic is not. 3. The biggest problem the young generation has is they were raised by my generation. I’m soon to be 60.

I used to manage a small company about 30-40 people depending on the time of year. Some would interview and never show up, some would work about a day, a few will stick it out for the week but I think we had about 1/10 turn out to be a good employee, 2/10 would be there most of the time
