I always use copper pipe with solder. I have seen the pex fittings leak. That is interesting. I spoke to 2 professional plumbers in the last month and both said they quit using copper cause the lead free solder just couldn't perform as good and that pex was more reliable. I asked him specifically about shark bite fittings and one said he only saw one fail ever and he wasn't sure why it did.

So, he knows better than all the professional plumbers.

Pex is easier and cheaper but it has watered down the trade... Id hesitate to call myself a plumber if I struggled soldering.
