I have owned several older Jeeps but nothing newer than an 05. The newer 4 doors have a 3.6 and a 3.8 motor choice. I really like the 4.0 motor and know nothing about the others. Anybody already researched them or owned them personally? Any years better than others?

My wife had a 4 door. Sahara Rides great and drives great. A lot of those with suspension lifts will ride badly if not set up correctly.

My brother has one. It drives like crap, rides like crap, gets horrible gas mileage, and the back seat isn’t fit for anyone over the age of 12. Sounds about right. Only good reason to own a jeep is because you just want to own a jeep.

Only good reason to own a jeep is because you just want to own a jeep. I forgot to add, it is slow. You better not want to go faster than 70 and that is pushing it.

While shopping for my son, I looked at a couple and thought they rode rough, but bout what I expected for a jeep. Never could find one with a hardtop in my price and mileage range. Probably best that I didn't.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I love TJ's. The 4.0 and a manual transmission is about as bulletproof as a drivetrain gets. 2 of my cousins (brothers) have JK's. One has a lifted 2 door on 35's, the other a stock 4 door, saving up to do a long arm lift and 35's.
I love the way the JKs look (once you ditch the awful factory bumpers). And they ride great (for a jeep). Dont know much about the motors myself though.
I dont think I'd want one as a daily driver, but more for a hunting truck/toy. I'm currently trying to convince my dad to sell me his TJ.
For anyone with a jeep or looking to get one, I highly recommend joining Jeepforum.com and/or wranglerforum.com. more info than you could ever possibly need.

Just did a quick search on the forums I mentioned above. 30nsecond version is the 3.6 has 60- 70 more hp. Off road, not really a big deal. If you're going to bigger tires, especially over 33's, you're likely going to re-gear anyway. With the 3.8 you may just re-gear a little lower. And if you have a manual transmission, not really a big deal. Mostly noticeable highway driving with an auto, as the transmission will search for gears more with the 3.8. Jeeps should be manual anyway, so find the one you like and just roll with it.

I've only rented a couple for a week at a time for hunting trips and will be renting another one in October. They've all done well on the highway, on tight mountain roads/trails, and in snow/mud.
