My wife suffers from high blood pressure , keeps going to her family Doc ( older feller) he keeps changing her meds, with little to no help. I tell her to go to a specialist. She says far as she knows there is not a BP specialist other than an internist . I guess my question , is there a BP specialist? Anyone know of a Doc might help from B'ham north to Chattanooga?

Has she tried a different family doc? Maybe they could make a recommendation.

She could have an arterial stenosis. renal artery stenosis is a common culprit if BP can’t be controlled with meds.

She definitely needs to seek another physician

Does she have high cholesterol? Even thyroid issues can sometimes cause high blood pressure (3%). I would definitely take her to a different doc. High blood pressure is called the silent killer.

Cholesterol numbers have historically been really good. I've been on her about seeing a different Doc. I think she's coming around to my way of thinking.

Your wife may be rail thin, I don't know. If she's not, somebody is going to tell her to lose weight and that will help her blood pressure.

I've lost nearly 60 pounds and my blood pressure has increased at least 30 points.

I've been put on 4 different meds and am still on 3 of them. I was just on one, 5 months ago.

I am seeing an MD that has extensively studied the Keto diet. Her response a couple of weeks ago was, "I have no idea" That wasn't too comforting.

My primary doc is in B'ham and he is an Internist. He doesn't know either and added a diuretic to my meds this past week.

My point is, if SHE doesn't stay on top of it and keep pushing, a doctor isn't going to help much, IMO. At least they haven't for my issue.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Treating blood pressure isn’t rocket science, and I’ve never heard of someone going to a specialist just for that. I might consider getting a second opinion.

Cardiologist. They can most likely get to the root of the problem.

I’ve had hypertension for 30 plus years take two different medications for it and I still run high numbers. Lost weight, exercised religiously for years and my numbers have always stayed pretty close to the same. Everything else health wise is right where it should be. One of my previous doctors that worked with me for about 10 years (had every test imaginable and was sent to cardiovascular, cardiologist and who knows) they gave up and said it was genetic and that’s been now about 8 years ago. I guess the good news is my numbers are still where they have been for the last 30 plus years and for me that’s good.

When my 18 year old son had fluctuating BP, our family DR sent him to a Cardiologist.

No it's not rocket science , but judging from some posts here , it must be difficult in some cases. Second opinion is what we want, just want someone with a little more knowledge than a regular MD.

I have the basic run of the mill HBP, my wife has some genetic HBP that took a while to figure out and it was a nurse practitioner that did. She now goes to a cardiologist that handles the scripts that seem to be ever changing every few years. My wife teaches spinning and body pump classes 10 or so times a week, she's pretty much a health nut, eating chicken and fish but mostly salads and very few carbs.

I have high BP. I am a tad overweight but not terrible. When I was diagnosed with it, the dr told me that I needed to exercise more. I had just run like 7 miles the day before (I was training for a half marathon). We talked about that and he put me on a very light dosage of lisinopril. Great blood pressure now. And I still run

I would find one at Memorial in Chattanooga at the heart institute.
