Does anybody have any experience with this line of scopes? I'm looking for a scope for an Encore 35 Whelen. The gun will only be used a couple weeks a year for some draw hunts or short primitive season. I have several VX 3's that I have no complaints with but I am not familiar with the Freedom line. I have decided on the VX Freedom 2-7x33 or VX 3i 2.5-8x36. Any feedback appreciated

I’ve had both at the same time and compared them in low light. Low light performance was very close and resolution was only slightly better with the VX-3i.
I’ve read somewhere before that the Freedom series essentially has VX-2 glass.
I’ve had several of the Freedom scopes on light kickers and they served their purpose quite well. Zeroing one of them was an unpleasant experience in that tracking wasn’t consistent to say the least. But it held zero once I finally got it there.
If mounting on a new gun, I recommend shooting a 3 shot group (with most any scope) prior to making any adjustments. That way if the scope doesn’t track properly you know it’s the scope and not the rifle.
You're only as good as your worst shot-

Like buckhunter2 said, I've had both. I like the VX Freedom line, but they didn't offer the power range and reticle size I wanted so I went with the VX3i

When the best scope you’ve ever owned is a crapped out Pentax and you score a deal on 2 of the Leupold freedom 3-9x40’s you’ll understand just how thrilled I am with them. The low light performance is surprisingly better than the Nikon slug scope on my 20ga. I am sure their higher end stuff and the Ziess and Swarovski scopes kick the freedom line’s tail. But it looks to me the freedom and Redfield scopes should be able to take advantage of the shutdown by Nikon and end up on many a rifle.
