After reading the shooting house thread and seeing the comments about placing it where you can enter and exit without being seen. We have a spot that has a big house on it over looking two plots that holds most of the does. We dont hunt out of it until mid January. But it is right in the middle of the plots and when you get out of it, it bust the deer off the field. They never blow you just hear them running off. But you can tell that after a few sits the deer dont use it in the daylight as much. So the question is what is the best thing to do to hide ourselves from entering/existing?

Short answer is to move the house off the plots. I have a stand about 50 yards off a plot looking down lanes. 90% of the bucks are shot on these lanes, not on the plots themselves. As a matter of fact most deer don't go to the plot. If you cant move the house your going to have to plant something for a screen so they cant see you, but if your right in the middle, I don't have a good answer, other than maybe have somone drive over to pick you up and let the vehicle run the deer off, instead of you running them off coming out of the shooting house.

Tennis screen off Amazon and 8 foot 4x4's and some staples. Not the cheapest option but if.you only have a short run to cover it might not be too bad.

This is why I built mine well off the plot. I still have to ninjy sneak out of the house at last light, but the deer are 100 yards away typically and I am only exposed for 20 yards or so leading up to the house.

I had one on a power line that was about 10 feet off the edge and about 50 yds South of 4 acres of clover. I put up an old wood fence to hide behind and went in through a trap door. That stand was always good for a couple of good bucks every season.

I've seen places where a shooting house could be beneficial in the middle of the field. Sometimes the terrain or landscape just requires that.
But for the most part, it seems better to have it located well away from the field.
Personally I like to be on the south or southeast side just so the sun isn't ever a factor.

I saw something the other day about plot screen. You could plant it going to the shooting house and cut a trail in it with a bushhog so your blocked. I haven't tried it myself.
