This little pandemic has certainly been an eye-opener for me. It made me realize we have traded our birthright for a mess of pottage, or our self-sufficiency for boatloads of Cheap Chinese Chit. All was well and good, because we had the money and they had the cheap labor. But the perils of globalization are revealed when the system is stressed. We can't get enough masks, gloves, gowns, or respirators because we don't make enough of them here. The Chinese (and other cheap-labor countries) make so much of what we need, and they aren't shipping until their own emergency needs are met. I can't blame them. I blame us. We bought the cheap Chinese crap while we watched American manufacturing wither.

I think it's time we reassessed. Quit buying from those cheap bastards. Use American money to rebuild, retool, and restore our manufacturing so we never get caught like this again. Of course it will cost more to make things here while paying workers way more than the Chinese. I would rather have 10 expensive American shirts than 20 cheap Chinese. If I threw out half the stuff I own, I would still have more than I need.

Are we, as a nation, willing to swap our Chinese addiction for self-sufficiency?

No, people will continue to buy whatever is cheaper. And people here won’t work for the wages to compete

I am. We should all email every politician and senator this type of statement

As a matter of fact, do you mind if we use it?

This is the same nation that had airlines hijacked by Muslims and then elected one 7 years later. We’re more likely to just open our borders even more to them or just make their leader our president than to pull our manufacturing back

Here ya go...USA made and generally cheaper than you can get Chinese shirts for. These are what I wear with my uniform at work, and I can tell you they'll last at least 4X longer than foreign made equivalents...

This. I will also add that you will have plenty of people that would agree with your statement and claim to support it but behind the scenes they still expect Harbor Freight prices and will continue to buy cheap.

You will have folks critical of the business owners who are charging so much more just to get rich. They will wonder why their prices cannot be cheaper or at least what "they" consider a fair price. Then they will "show them" and buy cheaper and you are back to where you started.

I been preaching don’t buy Chinese for years. Been laughed at a lot but I was right. As Charles Payne said we’ve traded our preeminence in the world for cheap plastic stuff. Don’t waste your time on politicians. It’s up to the citizens to chose not to buy their junk. If you see made in China on it don’t buy it.

Yep, I'm afraid china will make out like a bandit with this stimulus money they are handing out.

Folks need to be paying rent/mortgage and utility payments. Just because those are allowed to be unpaid currently does not mean that those payments are just erased indefinitely. To me it would be foolish to not use that to pay those bills with that stimulus money first if you are unable to do so now.

I foresee a lot of evictions for not getting rent caught up and lots of foreclosures in the not too distant future.

I though about this the other day. Everyone should look at every product they go to buy at Walmart etc. if made in China put it back on the shelf if you can do without

It's give and take. U.S. companies have factories all over the world making and selling products in those other countries. Buy, what you can, that is made in the U.S. of good quality at a competitive price, but I'm not paying extra for an inferior product just so I can support a union worker making an exorbitant salary, either. It's up to U.S. companies to innovate and stay competitive with those abroad.

The store would close if all the made in China products were removed.
